FC Schalke 04 — Last 6 matches
Preußen Münster — Last 6 matches

FC Schalke 04 host Preußen Münster in the 2. Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon, 19 April 2026, with both sides arriving at very different points in the table. Schalke sit second on 58 points and are chasing promotion, while Münster are down in 18th on 28 points and need every scrap they can get in the fight to stay up. For Schalke, this is the kind of home fixture they simply have to control. For Münster, it’s about surviving the pressure and trying to nick something from one of the league’s biggest names.

There’s also a clear rhythm to both seasons now. Schalke are unbeaten in nine league games and have turned their campaign into something far more solid than it looked earlier in the year. Münster, by contrast, have gone five without a win and have scored just once across their last four matches. That’s a grim run for a side at the bottom end of the division. They did at least avoid defeat in their last two, but scoreless draws against Greuther Fürth and Holstein Kiel haven’t moved the needle much.

The journey here matters too. Schalke’s recent surge has kept them right in the promotion picture, and Miron Muslić has his side playing with enough control to keep results coming even when they’re not at their slickest. Münster under Alois Schwartz are still scrapping for every point, but they’re short on cutting edge and that usually catches up with you. At this stage of the season, the gap in confidence looks just as important as the gap in the table.

FC Schalke 04 Form & Analysis

Schalke’s recent form has the feel of a promotion contender growing into itself. They beat Arminia Bielefeld 1-0 at home, shared a lively 2-2 draw with Hannover 96, then ground out a 1-1 away at Darmstadt 98 before seeing off Karlsruher SC 1-0 in Gelsenkirchen. Their latest outing was a 2-1 win at SV 07 Elversberg, a match they didn’t dominate in every phase but still found a way to win. That’s what strong sides do. They manage the ugly bits.

The numbers at home are even better and that’s where this match really starts to tilt. Schalke’s record at their own ground reads 10 wins, 3 draws and just 1 defeat, with 23 goals scored and 13 conceded. That’s proper top-end stuff. They aren’t blowing teams away every week, but they’re hard to live with in Gelsenkirchen, and the balance is right: enough goals to win games, enough discipline to stop them becoming shootouts. Their overall league record of 41 scored and 25 conceded tells a similar story. Compact, efficient, difficult to rattle.

Still, there’s a small warning sign in the recent away win at Elversberg. Schalke were second-best in a few areas, posting an xG of 1.37 against 2.15, and they won with 10 men after Moussa Ndiaye’s second yellow. That says a lot about their resilience, but it also suggests they’re not immune to spells of pressure. Against a side like Münster, who will sit in and try to frustrate, Schalke can’t afford a sloppy start. They’ve got the quality to win, though. Their home record says as much, and so does the nine-match unbeaten run.

Preußen Münster Form & Analysis

Münster come into this on the back of a run that doesn’t exactly shout survival. They drew 0-0 at home to Greuther Fürth, then repeated the trick away at Holstein Kiel, but before that it was a messy spell: a 1-3 home defeat to Magdeburg, a brutal 0-6 loss at Dynamo Dresden, and a 1-2 home defeat to Hertha BSC. The only win in their last six came away at Eintracht Braunschweig on 1 March. That was a month and a half ago. Since then, they’ve been short on punch and short on answers.

Alois Schwartz at least has a team that can occasionally make life awkward, especially on the road. Münster’s away record is 3 wins, 3 draws and 8 defeats, with 12 goals scored and 25 conceded. That’s not a reliable travelling profile, and the underlying shape is pretty blunt too. They average only 1.35 xG per match away from home across the division benchmark, which is modest enough already, and Münster have struggled to get themselves into consistent scoring positions. Their 31 goals for in the league isn’t terrible at the very bottom of the table, but the 47 conceded is the bigger issue. They’re chasing games too often.

The latest two goalless draws show a little more steel, especially the 0-0 at Kiel, where they limited the hosts to an xGA of 0.20 and only six shots against. That’s tidy work. But it’s not enough on its own. Münster need goals and right now they’re not finding them, with just one in their last four league outings. Can they keep Schalke quiet for long enough to turn this into a scrap? Maybe for a spell. Over 90 minutes, that’s a big ask.

Head-to-Head

Schalke have had the better of this fixture in the recent meetings. They beat Münster 2-1 away in September 2024, won 1-0 at home in February 2025, and then drew 0-0 in Münster on 22 November 2025. No losses in the last three. That’s a useful pattern for the home side, and it fits the wider picture too.

Those games haven’t been wild affairs, which is worth remembering. Schalke have tended to get enough control to stay in front or keep Münster at arm’s length. That doesn’t guarantee another tight contest, but it does suggest Münster haven’t found a clean attacking answer to Schalke’s structure.

We Predict: Home Win

We’re backing FC Schalke 04 to win at 8/15 here. It’s a short price, but it’s the right one. Schalke are second in the table, they’ve lost only once at home all season, and they’ve got the form to match the league position. Münster, meanwhile, are winless in five and have scored one goal across their last four. That’s not the sort of run you want when you’re visiting one of the division’s strongest home sides.

A 2-1 Schalke win is the call. Münster can probably make a nuisance of themselves for a period, especially if they keep the game narrow early on, but Schalke’s home control should tell. The one slight wrinkle is that Münster have managed two straight clean sheets, so this may not turn into a rout. Still, Schalke should have enough. If you wanted a slightly safer angle, Schalke to win and under 4.5 goals would fit the shape of this match nicely.
