FC Volendam — Last 6
SC Heerenveen — Last 6

FC Volendam host SC Heerenveen at the Kras Stadion on Sunday afternoon, 3 May 2026, with both clubs still having plenty to play for in the closing stretch of the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie season. Volendam sit 15th on 31 points and are still looking over their shoulder, while Heerenveen are much more comfortable in seventh on 47 points and can keep pushing towards the European places if they finish strongly.

That gap in the table matters, but it doesn’t flatten the contest. Volendam have been stubborn at home for long spells this season, and Heerenveen arrive with one of the livelier attacks in the division. This is the sort of game where one side is chasing security and the other is chasing momentum. Neither can really afford to drift.

The broader context is simple enough. Volendam need points to keep the relegation pressure from tightening again. Heerenveen, under Robin Veldman, are trying to turn a decent season into a very good one. That usually means ambition from the visitors, nerves from the hosts, and a match that should carry a bit of edge even if it doesn’t look like a classic on paper.

FC Volendam Form & Analysis

FC Volendam’s recent run has been messy, but there’s a flicker of life about them now after that 2-0 win away at Heracles Almelo on 26 April. Before that, though, it had been a story of frustration. They lost 2-1 at FC Twente on 10 April, were held to a goalless draw by Feyenoord at home on 5 April, and went through a tricky stretch that also included a 2-0 defeat at Sparta Rotterdam and a 2-1 home loss to Fortuna Sittard. The one point they picked up against Feyenoord was useful. Still, it wasn’t enough to hide the fact that too many matches have drifted away from them.

That win at Heracles was a proper lift. Volendam were sharp enough to create chances, efficient enough to take them, and organised enough to protect the lead. Anthony Descotte and Robert Muhren did the damage after the break, while Brandley Kuwas provided the assist for the second goal. It wasn’t a smash-and-grab either. Their 1.30 xG to Heracles’ 0.78 tells you they weren’t hanging on for dear life. That matters. It suggests the performance had some substance behind it.

At home, Volendam have been far more respectable than their league position suggests. Their home record reads six wins, five draws and four defeats, with 23 goals scored and 19 conceded. That’s not the profile of a soft touch at all. They’re 11th in the home standings, which is decent enough, and they’ve generally managed to keep games alive at the Kras Stadion. The flip side? They’ve also drawn too many and haven’t always turned territory into control. You can get at them. But you won’t always get a comfortable afternoon.

There’s also a clear pattern in their scoring. Volendam have struggled to put teams away, which is why a tighter, low-scoring home draw with the big sides has often been the shape of things. The 0-0 against Feyenoord fits that trend. So does the 1-2 home loss to Fortuna. They’ll compete, they’ll usually get into the game, but finishing the job is another matter. That’s the issue here. Against a better attack, Volendam need their defensive line to be tidy. If they concede first, the pressure rises fast.

SC Heerenveen Form & Analysis

Heerenveen arrive in better shape. Their 2-1 home win over Fortuna Sittard on 25 April came after the bump of a 3-0 loss at AZ Alkmaar on 12 April, and it was the kind of response a team in the top half needs. Before the AZ defeat, they’d been scoring freely: a 4-1 home win over Heracles, a 2-2 draw away at NEC Nijmegen, a 3-0 home win against SC Telstar, and a 2-1 victory at Excelsior. That’s a productive run. Four wins from six is the headline, but the manner of those wins matters too. They’re not scraping by. They’re creating chances and usually making them count.

The Fortuna game summed them up quite well. They were lively early, with Philip Brittijn scoring in the 12th minute and Ringo Meerveld doubling the lead four minutes later. Marcus Linday added a third before the late reply, and the team produced 2.03 xG to Fortuna’s 0.91. That’s a strong attacking return, even if the late red card for Ivo Pinto slightly soured the finish. No matter. The main point is that Heerenveen look capable of forcing the pace when they want to.

Away from home, they’ve been less clean than they’d like, but still solid enough. Their road record stands at five wins, three draws and seven losses, with 22 goals scored and 27 conceded. That’s the one wrinkle in an otherwise healthy picture. They’re ninth in the away standings, which tells you they’re not an outfit that travels badly, yet they’ve also opened the door often enough for opponents to stay in the game. The defensive side can wobble when they’re stretched. That’s the danger here.

Mind you, the attacking numbers are hard to ignore. Heerenveen have scored 55 league goals overall and have been involved in plenty of open games, away from home especially. They’re at their best when they play at speed, win second balls and get runners beyond the striker. If they can do that early in Volendam’s half, they should create enough. The question is whether they can keep the back door shut. Usually, they can’t. That’s why their matches have such a habit of opening up.

Head-to-Head

Recent meetings between these sides point in the same direction: goals, and usually Heerenveen having the upper hand. The reverse fixture in August 2025 finished 1-1 in Heerenveen, while the season before that brought a heavy 4-0 home win for Heerenveen. Volendam did beat them 2-1 away in December 2023, so this isn’t a one-way street, but the general pattern favours the visitors.

There’s also a clear trend in the fixture itself. Both teams have scored in six of the last eight meetings, and more than 2.5 goals has landed in six of those eight as well. That’s the sort of history bettors don’t ignore lightly. It doesn’t guarantee anything, of course. But it does fit the shape of these two sides right now. Volendam can usually find a way to get on the board at home. Heerenveen usually find the net anyway.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 4/9 here. If you want to dig a bit deeper here, the BTTS and win tips page pulls together BTTS and win combinations if you want a more aggressive version of the same kind of read. That price feels fair enough for a match where neither side looks remotely built for a 0-0. Volendam have scored 23 times at home this season, Heerenveen have found the net 22 times on the road, and both teams come into this with enough attacking confidence to threaten. You don’t need to overcomplicate it.

The tactical fit is pretty neat as well. Volendam have enough at home to ask questions, especially after that encouraging performance at Heracles, but they’ve only kept 19 goals against at the Kras Stadion because they’re usually in games rather than shutting them down. Heerenveen, meanwhile, are exactly the sort of side who can punish that. Their recent run has been full of goals, and the head-to-head record leans the same way, with BTTS landing in six of the last eight meetings. A 1-2 away win feels the likeliest scoreline. If you want an alternative, over 2.5 goals is live too, but BTTS looks the cleaner play.
