Sevilla — Last 6
Real Sociedad — Last 6

Sevilla welcome Real Sociedad to the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Monday evening, 4 May 2026, with the stakes very different but equally stark. Sevilla are scrapping to escape the bottom three, sitting 18th on 34 points and in real danger of being dragged into the drop. Real Sociedad are 9th on 43 points, not quite close enough to make the European race comfortable, but still with enough time to force a late surge. One side is fighting for survival. The other is trying to salvage a season that’s drifted into mid-table frustration.

Luis Garcia’s Sevilla are under no illusions. This is the kind of home game they need to compete in if they’re going to pull clear. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Real Sociedad arrive with less pressure but plenty to prove, and that can be a dangerous combination. Their recent meetings have tended to be tight and tense, though there’s often been goals in the mix. That’s the mood here too. Sevilla need points badly. Real Sociedad need something that looks like momentum.

The backdrop is fairly simple. Sevilla’s home record has been modest rather than hopeless, while Real Sociedad’s away record is the sort that keeps you interested without ever fully trusting them. Both sides have been leaking goals. Both sides have been involved in matches that swing quickly. And with only a small gap between Sevilla’s survival fight and Sociedad’s mid-table stagnation, this feels like one of those nights where the first goal matters a lot.

Sevilla Form & Analysis

Sevilla’s recent run has been grim viewing if you’re a home supporter. They’ve lost five of their last six league matches and the tone has been wrong for a while. The one real bright spot came on 11 April, when they beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 at home, a result that briefly suggested they’d turned a corner. They haven’t. Since then it’s been a loss at Real Oviedo, defeats at Barcelona and Osasuna, and another setback away to Levante UD. That Atlético win feels like a lifetime ago now.

The Osasuna defeat on 26 April summed them up. They were second best for long spells, losing 2-1 in Pamplona after producing just 0.40 xG and conceding 1.43. Eight shots, two on target, one big chance created. That won’t cut it. Still, their home numbers aren’t completely dead. Sevilla have picked up 19 points at the Sánchez Pizjuán, with five wins, four draws and seven defeats, scoring 21 and conceding 23. Those are not the numbers of a freefalling home side, but they are the numbers of a team living on the edge. They don’t control games, and they don’t protect leads well enough.

The bigger issue is consistency at both ends. Sevilla have no clean sheet in their last eight, and that’s a brutal streak for a team that already lacks margin for error. They can score at home, but they rarely do it with any authority. The attacks have flashes, not rhythm. That makes them awkward opponents, but it also makes them vulnerable. If Real Sociedad find their passing range, Sevilla will be under pressure for long stretches. If they don’t, the hosts still have enough chaos in them to nick a goal. That’s the problem with Sevilla right now. You can see the fight. You just can’t trust the structure.

Real Sociedad Form & Analysis

Real Sociedad arrive with a different kind of frustration. Their results have been more stable than Sevilla’s, but not by much, and a win has been hard to come by. They’ve gone four matches without a victory, drawing three of them, and the pattern is becoming familiar: competitive enough to stay in games, not clinical enough to finish them. The 3-3 draw at Rayo Vallecano on 26 April was pure chaos. They led, they got dragged back, they scored again, and they still couldn’t hold the line. Before that came a 1-0 home defeat to Getafe, a 2-2 draw at Atlético Madrid in the Copa del Rey, and another 3-3 draw against Deportivo Alavés. Plenty of action. Not much reward.

The Rayo game was especially revealing. Real Sociedad produced 1.44 xG and faced 2.38 at the other end, with 13 shots to 24 and eight on target in a six-goal thriller. That tells you everything about their current profile. They can create. They can also open the door at the back. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side have scored 52 and conceded 52 in the league, which is a pretty blunt summary of their season. Balanced, yes. Efficient, no. They don’t travel terribly either, but they don’t travel with authority. Their away record reads three wins, six draws and seven defeats, with 20 goals scored and 27 conceded. That’s not the profile of a side you’d confidently back to impose itself on the road.

Still, Sociedad do carry more threat than their league position suggests. Mikel Oyarzabal has kept them ticking in front of goal, and their recent matches have shown they’re capable of getting into scoring positions against most opponents. The issue is what happens after that. They’ve become too easy to play through, especially away from home, and when the game turns into a scramble, they don’t look secure. Can they keep it tight in Seville? You’d be brave to say yes. The flip side? Sevilla haven’t exactly been punishing teams with ruthless attacking football either. That’s why this one leans towards a controlled away result rather than a straightforward away romp.

Head-to-Head

Recent meetings have generally had a Real Sociedad edge. Sociedad beat Sevilla 2-1 on 24 October 2025, and they also won 2-0 at the Sánchez Pizjuán in November 2024. Sevilla did respond with a 1-0 away win in March 2025 and a wild 3-2 home victory in March 2024, so this hasn’t been one-way traffic. But the pattern is pretty clear: these games usually stay competitive, and Sociedad have had the better of the overall run.

There’s usually a bit of goalmouth action too. Five of the last seven meetings have gone over 2.5 goals, and both teams have scored in five of those seven. That fits the shape of this fixture. Neither side has been watertight, and neither tends to sit comfortably when forced to defend for long spells. Still, history alone won’t decide this. Current form points to a game where Sociedad are more likely to avoid defeat than Sevilla are to force a win.

We Predict: Double Chance X2

We’re backing Double Chance X2 at 8/15 here, and it’s the cleanest angle on the game. For more context beyond this pick, see our betting guides hub, which pulls together all of our core football betting explainers so you can jump straight to the market or strategy you need. Real Sociedad simply look the steadier side, and Sevilla’s recent home form doesn’t give much confidence that they can turn this into a controlled victory. Sociedad aren’t flying, but they’ve got more variety in attack and a little more resilience when games become messy. Sevilla, by contrast, are carrying the pressure of the relegation scrap and haven’t shown enough defensive control to justify short-priced home backing.

The 1-2 correct score fits the feel of it. Sevilla should get chances — their home record suggests they’re capable of nicking one — but Sociedad have enough about them to find two, especially against a back line that’s gone eight league matches without a clean sheet. The xG projection of 1.3 to 1.4 also points to a tight game with the away side just shading the main moments. If you want a slightly bolder angle, Both Teams to Score has a case too, but the safer play is X2. Sociedad to avoid defeat looks the strongest call.
