Wisła Płock — Last 6
Górnik Zabrze — Last 6

Wisła Płock host Górnik Zabrze in the Ekstraklasa on Saturday evening, 16 May 2026, and there’s plenty riding on it for both sides even if the title picture isn’t in play. Wisła are sitting seventh with 45 points, close enough to the top end of the table to care about every result, while Górnik arrive in third on 50 points and still chasing the strongest possible finish. For Mariusz Misiura’s side, this is about stopping a slide and protecting a respectable campaign. For Michal Gasparik’s team, it’s about keeping their grip on a top-three spot and staying sharp when the pressure starts to bite.

The contrast in momentum gives the match its edge. Wisła have lost their last three league games and were smashed 4-0 at home by Motor Lublin last weekend. Górnik, by comparison, are not exactly flying, but they’ve been harder to beat and far more stable across the season. Their 0-0 draw away to Arka Gdynia on 13 May didn’t thrill anyone, yet it did extend an already solid spell on the road. Both teams have reasons to believe they can score here. Both also have obvious flaws. That’s why this one has all the ingredients for a tight, messy draw.

Wisła Płock Form & Analysis

Wisła’s recent run has drained the optimism out of what had been a decent season. They beat Bruk-Bet Termalica Nieciecza 3-1 away on 19 April and followed that with a narrow home win over Lechia Gdańsk, but since then it’s been a harsh descent. Radomiak Radom came to Płock and left with a 1-0 win, Pogoń Szczecin beat them 3-0 away from home, and then Motor Lublin arrived and blew them apart 4-0 on 10 May. Three defeats in a row. That’s a bad time to be wobbling.

The Motor game was the real warning sign. Wisła actually had 22 shots and 1.61 expected goals, so they weren’t starved of chances. They just didn’t land the punches. At the other end, they allowed 17 shots and 1.56 xGA, and the scoreline got away from them badly in the final stretch. That’s been the issue for a while now. They’ve gone four games without a clean sheet, and in a few of those matches they’ve looked vulnerable once the first goal goes against them. That won’t help against a Górnik side who are usually happy to keep things compact and wait for openings.

Their home record is decent rather than dominant. Eight wins, three draws and five defeats at their own ground gives them a solid base, and they’ve scored 16 and conceded 15 there, which tells you exactly what kind of team they are at home. Not a free-scoring outfit, not a fortress either. Just competent, often competitive, but rarely clean or convincing. The problem is that the recent performances have drifted away from that balance. If they’re going to respond, they’ll need to do it quickly. Another flat first half and they could be chasing the game again.

Górnik Zabrze Form & Analysis

Górnik’s last six results are a bit more varied, but the overall picture is still healthier than Wisła’s. They drew 1-1 away to Legia Warszawa on 11 April, beat Korona Kielce 1-0 at home a week later, then went to Jagiellonia Białystok and came away with a 2-1 win on 24 April. Their cup run brought a tidy 2-0 home victory over Raków Częstochowa on 2 May, which was a proper statement, before the league form took a hit with a 2-0 home loss to Zagłębie Lubin. On 13 May they were held 0-0 by Arka Gdynia away from home.

So, not perfect. But steady enough. They’ve only lost once in their last four league outings, and even that defeat came after two strong wins and a draw at a difficult venue. Gasparik will know the draw in Gdynia wasn’t spectacular, yet the away point mattered. Górnik didn’t collapse, didn’t get dragged into a chaotic end-to-end game, and stayed on the right side of control for long spells. That kind of maturity matters when you’re sitting third and trying to close the season without a wobble.

Their away record is respectable too. Four wins, seven draws and five defeats on the road, with 15 goals scored and 21 conceded, isn’t the profile of a side that runs away from games, but it does show they’re awkward to beat away from home. They’ve drawn plenty, they’ve scored in enough of those fixtures to stay alive, and they’ve already shown they can go to places like Legia and Jagiellonia and take something. The defensive numbers are a little untidy, mind you. That’s the opening Wisła will try to use. Górnik don’t usually keep things spotless on their travels. They just tend to find a way to stay in the fight.

Head-to-Head

There’s a clear pattern in this fixture. The recent meetings have been tight, tense and usually open enough for both sides to land a blow. When the teams met in Zabrze on 21 November 2025, it finished 1-1. Before that, Górnik won 3-2 at home in March 2023, while the clash in Płock in September 2022 also ended level at 1-1. Go back a little further and there’s another 3-2 Górnik win, a 3-2 Wisła victory, and a 2-0 away success for Płock in 2021. Goals have never been in short supply between them. That’s the simple truth.

One detail stands out more than the rest: Wisła haven’t kept a clean sheet in five straight meetings with Górnik. That’s awkward for a home side already struggling defensively. If they’re going to stop the pattern, it’ll take a far tighter back line than the one that folded against Motor.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 4/5 for this one. It fits the shape of the game better than a side market or a goals line. Wisła have been leaking chances and haven’t kept a clean sheet in four games, while Górnik’s away record is built on scoring often enough to stay competitive even when they don’t dominate. Throw in the fact that this fixture has delivered BTTS in five straight meetings, and the angle is hard to ignore. Simple as that.

A 1-1 draw feels the right call. Wisła should get chances at home, especially if Górnik give them space in the middle third, but the visitors have enough nous to nick their own goal. Neither side looks sharp enough to run away with it. If you wanted a cautious alternative, under 2.5 goals has some appeal given Górnik’s recent trend, but BTTS still looks the cleaner play in a game where both defences have shown too many cracks.
