Al-Hazem — Last 6
Al-Taawoun — Last 6

Al-Hazem host Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday evening, 21 May 2026, with both sides still chasing end-of-season points for very different reasons. Al-Hazem sit 9th on 39 points and are trying to finish with some respectability after a stop-start campaign, while Al-Taawoun are up in 6th with 53 points and still have a strong platform to secure a high finish. There’s no title race here, but there is still plenty on the line. Pride, positioning, momentum. Those things matter.

For Al-Hazem, this is about dragging themselves out of a rut and showing they can compete with one of the division’s sharper away teams. For Al-Taawoun, it’s a chance to keep their European-qualification hopes alive in a broad sense and protect a good league position. They’ve been one of the better road sides in the division, and they’ll expect to get something here. The catch? Al-Hazem have been awkward enough at home to make this less straightforward than the table suggests.

Al-Hazem Form & Analysis

Al-Hazem come into this on the back of a bleak night at Al-Qadsiah, where they lost 2-0 away on 14 May and never really got going. Two shots, no shots on target, and an xG of just 0.05 told the story. That was the sort of performance that drains confidence. They’d only just stopped the bleeding in the days before, drawing 2-2 at Al-Najma SC and 1-1 at Neom SC, but then Al-Hilal came to their ground and beat them 3-0. That was a proper reminder of the gap at the top end. Before that, though, there was a decent little run: home wins over Al-Riyadh, 2-1, and Al-Fayha, 2-0. So it’s been a mixed bag. Some life. Some flatness. Not much middle ground.

The home record is decent enough without being especially strong: 7 wins, 2 draws and 7 defeats at their own ground, with 20 scored and 30 conceded. That’s the issue in one line. They can nick goals, but they give them back too easily. Jalel Kadri’s side have now gone four games without a win, and the pressure on them tends to show when they concede first. They’ve done that often enough this season, and when the game turns against them, they don’t always have the tools to force it back. Three goals from Al-Hilal at home. Two at Al-Qadsiah away. One-1 draws at Neom and Al-Najma. It’s a side living close to the edge.

Still, there’s enough attacking output at home to keep hope alive here. Twenty goals in 16 league matches at this ground isn’t spectacular, but it’s not nothing either. Their xG projection of 1.3 for this game lines up with a team that should get chances against a defence that can be opened up. They won’t dominate possession or territory, but they don’t need to. They just need to stay in touch. That’s the trick.

Al-Taawoun Form & Analysis

Al-Taawoun’s recent run has been a little erratic, but the ceiling is clearly higher. They were held 1-1 at home by Al-Riyadh on 15 May after a match that had the feel of a missed opportunity. They had 20 shots, created two big chances, and still didn’t get the job done. A few days earlier, Al-Ahli beat them 2-1 at home, and before that they’d produced one of their best results of the season with a 5-1 away win at Al-Shabab. That was a statement performance. Fast, ruthless, and clean in the final third. It showed what they can do when they click.

But the flip side is there too. They lost 2-0 at home to Al-Ittihad, beat Al-Najma SC away 2-1, and were beaten 2-1 at home by Al-Kholood. Pericles Chamusca’s team have had enough good moments to stay near the top end, but not enough control to go on a long, clean run. They’ve mixed a bit of polish with a fair amount of vulnerability. That can be dangerous in a game like this. Useful going forward, shaky without the ball.

Their away record is strong: 8 wins, 3 draws and 5 losses, with 30 scored and 20 conceded. That’s the mark of a side that travels well. They’re 5th in the away table for a reason. They score more than most on the road, and they don’t usually freeze when the game opens up. Their overall league numbers are solid too, with 59 goals scored and 44 conceded. The attacking side is never really in doubt. The question is whether they can keep enough control at the other end. Clean sheets have been hard to come by, and that matters here.

Can they keep Al-Hazem quiet for 90 minutes? Probably not. Al-Taawoun’s recent away pattern suggests they’re good for a goal, maybe two, but not always good for shutting the door. That’s why this looks like a game where they should get chances and concede chances too. Not a cagey one. Not at all.

Head-to-Head

This fixture has leaned heavily towards goals in recent seasons. When these sides met on 22 January 2026, it finished 2-2 at Al-Taawoun, which fitted the broader pattern rather neatly. Before that, Al-Taawoun beat Al-Hazem 4-0 in March 2024 and 3-1 away in September 2023. There’s been very little caution in these meetings. Plenty of open football. Plenty of goals.

One trend stands out above the rest: both teams have scored in four of the last five league meetings, and the matches have produced more than 2.5 goals in all five of those most recent head-to-heads. That kind of run doesn’t guarantee anything, but it does make the BTTS case feel a lot more natural than a tight, low-scoring script. These two tend to trade blows. They rarely keep things tidy.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 8/13 here, and it’s the cleanest angle on the board. Al-Hazem have scored in enough home matches to stay relevant, while Al-Taawoun’s away record is built on attack rather than control. Add in the fact that both sides have been leaking chances lately, and 1.62 is a fair price for goals at both ends.

The 1-1 scoreline feels the most honest call. Al-Hazem aren’t stable enough to shut out a side like this, but they’ve got enough about them at home to nick one. Al-Taawoun should get on the board too, yet their recent habit of leaving the door open means a clean win isn’t the likeliest outcome. If you want a small alternative, Over 2.5 Goals has obvious appeal given the history between these clubs, but BTTS still looks the best fit.
