Al-Najma SC — Last 6
Al-Taawoun — Last 6

Al-Najma SC host Al-Taawoun in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday evening, 23 April 2026, and the contrast between the two clubs is stark. One is fighting to claw its way off the bottom of the table. The other is chasing a place near the top end of the division and trying to keep pressure on the sides above it. There’s still plenty to play for at both ends, but the pressure sits very differently.

For Al-Najma, this is about survival and pride. They’re 18th with only 11 points, and the numbers are bleak enough on their own: two wins, five draws and 21 defeats, with 67 conceded already. Al-Taawoun arrive in fifth with 46 points and a real chance to strengthen their push for a strong finish. A win here would keep them on course for a high league placing, and on paper this is the sort of game they should be winning.

The broader story is simple enough. Al-Najma are trying to drag themselves out of a hole, while Al-Taawoun are expected to show their authority. But football doesn’t always obey the table, and the hosts did at least give themselves a lift last time out. That win was long overdue. Whether it’s the start of something better or just a brief interruption to a miserable run is the big question.

Al-Najma SC Form & Analysis

Al-Najma’s recent league form has been a bruising watch. Before beating Neom SC 2-1 at home on 11 April, they’d lost five straight, and the defeats were all over the place in one respect: they kept conceding far too many goals. There was the 5-2 reverse at Al-Nassr, a 3-1 home loss to Damac FC, a heavy 4-0 defeat at Al-Hilal, then another 3-1 setback against Al-Okhdood and a 0-5 hammering at home to Al-Nassr. That’s not a wobble. That’s a collapse.

The Neom result mattered because it finally broke the mood. Al-Najma led through Mohammed Al Aqal, saw Bilal Boutobba add another after the interval, and then survived a far too open contest despite Al-Aqal’s red card before half-time. They were under the cosh for long spells — 33 shots against them is a wild number — but they found a way. That won’t be enough against better teams every week, and the underlying picture is still ugly. They’ve kept just two clean sheets all season? No. They’ve actually gone without one in 12, and that feels about right for a side shipping goals for fun.

At home, the record is a little less hopeless but still poor. Two wins, three draws and nine losses at their own ground tells the story. They’ve scored 17 and conceded 32 there, so even in familiar surroundings they’re not controlling games. The positive spin is that they do carry some threat at home — they’ve scored in enough matches to keep the crowd interested — but the defensive side is shaky and often chaotic. You can usually expect chances. The problem is that Al-Najma keep giving up more of them.

Al-Taawoun Form & Analysis

Al-Taawoun’s last six tell a very different story, even if the results haven’t been perfect. They beat Al-Fateh 3-2 on 6 March in a lively home game, then drew 1-1 away to Al-Qadsiah before a pair of excellent-looking away performances: 2-2 at Neom SC and 2-2 at Al-Hilal. That’s the kind of road form that keeps a team competitive. They followed it with a home defeat to Al-Kholood, which was a setback, but not one that erases the steadier picture over the month or so before it.

The recent Al-Kholood match was a strange one. Al-Taawoun were tidy in possession and produced 17 shots, but they lost 2-1 after conceding early and never quite shaking the frustration off. Still, the overall pattern remains healthier than the raw result suggests. They’ve drawn three of their last six, won once and lost twice. That isn’t sparkling form, but it’s the sort of run that usually belongs to a team with some balance about it. They’re difficult to beat, they don’t panic, and they can score away from home.

That away record matters here. Six wins, three draws and five defeats on the road is a strong return, especially when paired with 23 goals scored and only 18 conceded away from home. Al-Taawoun don’t simply travel to sit deep and hope. They score, they stay in games, and they’ve kept themselves in the top-half conversation because of that consistency. They’ve also gone three without a win now, so there’s a bit of urgency to sharpen up again. Mind you, even that minor dip still looks far healthier than what Al-Najma have been serving up.

Head-to-Head

These sides met once in the database earlier this season, and Al-Taawoun edged it 1-0 at home on 29 December 2025. That was a tight game rather than a one-sided one, and it fits the broader feeling around this matchup: Al-Taawoun have generally had the edge, but they haven’t blown Al-Najma away in every meeting.

That result won’t decide Thursday night on its own, yet it does add to the sense that Al-Taawoun know how to manage this opponent. If they get in front again, you’d expect them to be far more comfortable than the hosts.

We Predict: Double Chance X2

Double Chance X2 at 1/6 looks the right call for this one. It’s short odds, sure, but it’s also the most sensible route through the game. Al-Taawoun are the better side, the better away side and the side with far more structure across the season. Al-Najma have just one win in their last six, and that came after a brutal spell in which they were conceding goals at an alarming rate. That doesn’t scream home upset.

The other piece that matters is how both teams are set up to play. Al-Najma can score at home, and Al-Taawoun have been active on the road, so a 1-2 away win feels like the likeliest scoreline. The visitors should get chances and should have enough about them to nick the points even if they’re not at their sharpest. If you want a slightly bigger angle, Al-Taawoun to win is viable, but the safety of X2 is the cleaner play.
