Başakşehir FK — Last 6
Samsunspor — Last 6

Başakşehir FK host Samsunspor at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium on Saturday evening, 9 May 2026, with both sides still pushing for a strong finish in the Trendyol Süper Lig. It’s sixth against seventh, 51 points against 48, and that alone tells you this is more than a routine spring fixture. There’s real pressure here. European places are within sight, but neither club can afford a stumble with the table still bunched tightly behind the leading pack.

For Başakşehir, this is a chance to steady the ship after a bruising trip to Fenerbahçe, where they were beaten 3-1. Samsunspor arrive with a different kind of momentum entirely, fresh from a huge 4-1 home win over Galatasaray and unbeaten in five league games before that. One side wants control and redemption. The other wants to keep the noise going. That’s a decent recipe for goals.

The first meeting between these teams this season went Başakşehir’s way, a 2-0 win in Samsun in December, and that result will still sit in the background. But these clubs have changed shape since then. Başakşehir have tightened up at home, Samsunspor have turned into one of the division’s livelier travelling sides, and both managers — Nuri Şahin and Thorsten Fink — know this is the sort of game that can define where they end up.

Başakşehir FK Form & Analysis

Başakşehir’s recent run has been a bit of a mixed bag, but it’s not hard to see the overall pattern. They came through a good home stretch with a 4-0 dismantling of Kasımpaşa on 24 April, then followed that with a 1-1 draw away to Trabzonspor and a comfortable 3-0 home win over Gençlerbirliği. Before that, they were held 0-0 away at Kocaelispor and 0-0 at home by Antalyaspor. Then came the trip to Fenerbahçe, and that was a reminder of the gap between looking solid and coping with a genuinely elite attack.

That 3-1 loss at Fenerbahçe wasn’t a hammering, but the numbers were ugly enough. Başakşehir managed just 0.89 xG, gave up 2.05, and were outshot 22-15. They didn’t create a big chance at all, while Fenerbahçe carved out five. Three goals came from Talisca. That sort of evening can happen against top opposition. Still, it left a sting. Before that, though, Başakşehir had gone unbeaten in four, and there’s a clear sign that at home they’re usually much more composed.

The home record is the real base here. Seven wins, six draws and only three defeats in league games at their ground is a strong return, and the 30-17 goal difference at home tells you why they’re sitting inside the top six. They don’t just win there; they usually control matches. The recent 4-0 and 3-0 home victories showed they can be ruthless when the game opens up. The flip side? A couple of frustrating blanks, and that slightly cautious feel in some fixtures has cost them points they probably should’ve banked. Three goalless draws in the broader recent run is a reminder that they’re not always electric.

Still, Başakşehir’s profile at home is hard to ignore. They’re averaging well over two goals per game at their own ground and conceding barely more than one. That balance matters. They’ve got enough attacking punch to trouble most sides in this league, and enough structure to avoid chaos for long periods. Against a Samsunspor team that’s been scoring freely, though, they’ll need a cleaner defensive night than they managed in Istanbul last weekend.

Samsunspor Form & Analysis

Samsunspor come into this one with momentum and belief. Their last six league and cup games have been a lively ride: a 4-1 home win over Galatasaray on 2 May, a 3-2 away win at Alanyaspor, a 0-0 draw with Trabzonspor in the cup, a 2-1 home league win over Beşiktaş, and a 2-1 away victory at Eyüpspor before the run finally stalled with a 4-1 loss at Çaykur Rizespor. That’s not the record of a side trying to sneak under the radar. That’s a team that expects to trade blows.

The Galatasaray result was the statement win. Samsunspor’s xG of 1.79 compared with Galatasaray’s 1.66 was tight enough on paper, but the shot profile was even more impressive: 13 attempts, eight on target, six big chances created. They were direct, sharp and relentless after the break, and the red card to Günay Güvenç only made the scoreline uglier for the visitors. Before that, their 3-2 win at Alanyaspor and 2-1 win over Beşiktaş showed the same thing. They’re not shy. They go forward.

That attacking tilt has given Samsunspor a strong away record too. Six wins, five draws and five defeats on the road, with 24 goals scored and 25 conceded, is a pretty healthy return for a side sitting seventh. They don’t travel like a team happy to sit back and take a point. They’ve scored in plenty of away games, and their recent road form backs that up. The defeat at Rizespor was messy, but even there they found the net. Can they keep it up on the road? The answer, recently, has often been yes.

There is a vulnerability in all this, though. Samsunspor aren’t exactly a lock-down outfit. They’ve conceded 42 league goals overall and 25 away from home, so the defensive side of the job isn’t as clean as the attacking one. That’s why their matches have become such a good watch — and why the BTTS angle is alive here. They’ll fancy themselves to score again in Istanbul, but whether they can keep Başakşehir out for 90 minutes is another matter entirely.

Head-to-Head

These two have already produced a few telling meetings in recent seasons. Başakşehir won 2-0 in Samsun in December 2025, and that was followed by a 4-0 home win for Başakşehir in February 2025. Samsunspor did get one over them in September 2024 with a 2-0 victory at home, while Başakşehir edged a tight 1-0 win in March 2024. The pattern is fairly clear: home advantage has mattered, and the margins have varied from tight to emphatic.

One market trend stands out from the recent matchups. Fewer than 2.5 goals has landed in four of the last five meetings. That said, this version of Samsunspor looks more open and more aggressive than the sides involved in some of those earlier games. The history leans a bit toward caution. The current form leans the other way. That’s where the tension sits.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 4/6 for this one. Our BTTS and win tips page is a useful companion here because it pulls together BTTS and win combinations if you want a more aggressive version of the same kind of read. It’s the clearest angle on the board. Başakşehir have scored 30 home league goals and only failed to find the net regularly in the slower, tighter spells of their season. Samsunspor have been scoring for fun lately, with four at Galatasaray, three at Alanyaspor and two each against Beşiktaş and Eyüpspor. They’ve also scored in plenty of away games. That’s the key. Both sides bring enough punch to ask questions.

There’s a decent case for a 2-1 Başakşehir win too, and that’s the scoreline we’re leaning towards. Başakşehir’s home edge and slightly steadier league position give them the nod, but Samsunspor are in no mood to fold. They’ve got too much momentum for that. The one slight tension with BTTS is the head-to-head record, which has trended toward lower-scoring games, but recent form carries more weight than old patterns here. If you want a little extra value, Over 2.5 Goals also has a fair shout, though BTTS remains the sharper play.
