Bohemian FC — Last 6
Shelbourne — Last 6

Bohemian FC welcome Shelbourne to Dalymount Park on Monday evening, 4 May 2026, in a Premier Division meeting that matters at both ends of the European places picture. Bohemians arrive sitting third on 21 points, with Alan Reynolds’ side trying to stop a frustrating winless run from turning into something more damaging. Shelbourne are sixth on 16 points and have been lurching between stubborn away form and a defence that’s been far too easy to open up.

There’s a clear contrast here. Bohemians are higher in the table and have the better overall defensive numbers, but they’ve gone eight league matches without a win and haven’t tasted victory since beating Galway United 1-0 on 13 March. Shelbourne, by contrast, finally snapped back with a 2-1 win at Dundalk on 1 May, yet their season has been a rollercoaster. They’ve scored plenty, conceded even more, and now face a ground where results have been hard to come by in recent years.

The backdrop is a familiar one too. This is a league fixture between two sides who know each other well, and the recent meetings have been tight, tense and often full of goals. That said, there’s a slight edge to Bohemians on home turf if they can finally turn territorial control into points. The numbers say they should. The question is whether they can actually do it.

Bohemian FC Form & Analysis

Bohemians’ recent league form has been a slog, plain and simple. Their last six reads like the story of a side stuck in second gear: a 1-1 home draw with Derry City on 1 May, a 3-1 defeat at St. Patrick’s Athletic, a 2-1 loss away to Shamrock Rovers, a 2-1 home reverse to Sligo Rovers, then back-to-back draws against Waterford FC and Drogheda United. There’s been no collapse, no complete breakdown, just a steady drip of frustration. They’ve been competitive in most of these games and still keep ending up short.

The Derry game summed them up. James Olayinka put them in front at home, and they looked on course to hold that lead until the game turned on discipline and a late red card for Adam O’Reilly. That’s been the pattern too often this spring: enough moments to matter, not enough control to finish the job. Bohemians have scored in four of their last six league matches, but they’ve also failed to keep a clean sheet in five. That’s a headache for Reynolds. It’s not fatal, but it leaves them living on a knife-edge.

At Dalymount, the picture is decent rather than dominant. Their home record stands at 2 wins, 4 draws and 1 defeat, with 8 goals scored and 7 conceded. That’s not the profile of a team that should be drifting this long without a win, but it does explain why they’re hard to beat on their own ground. They’re organised enough, and they usually create chances, yet they haven’t been ruthless. The xG projection for this game — 1.7 to 1.0 in their favour — fits the eye test. Bohemians should have enough territory and enough chances. They just need a cleaner final ball and a calmer head when the match starts to tilt.

Shelbourne Form & Analysis

Shelbourne come in with a much more erratic story. Their last six games have swung from one extreme to the other: a 2-1 away win at Dundalk on 1 May, then a wild 4-3 home defeat to Drogheda United, a 2-1 loss to Derry City, a 3-2 defeat at Shamrock Rovers, another home loss, this time 3-2 against Dundalk, and before that a 1-0 win away to Sligo Rovers. They’ve been involved in chaos more often than not. Goals are never far away when Shelbourne are on the pitch. Defending them, though, is another matter.

Joseph O’Brien’s side at least showed some character in Dundalk. Daniel Kelly scored early, Kerr McInroy added another after the break, and Daryl Horgan wrapped it up from the spot late on. They had 14 shots, four on target and three big chances. That’s the sort of attacking return Shelbourne can live with. The flip side? They’ve conceded in six straight league matches and have not kept a clean sheet in that run. That’s a huge issue away to a team like Bohemians, who may be short of wins but rarely lack for chances at home.

Their away record is the real warning sign for anyone dismissing them too quickly. Shelbourne are top of the away table with 4 wins, 1 draw and only 1 defeat, and they’ve scored 10 while conceding 7 on the road. Those numbers are strong, and they explain why this isn’t a simple home banker. Still, the away table can flatter teams that’ve had a few efficient nights rather than sustained control, and Shelbourne’s recent match pattern says they’re far more open than those figures suggest. They’ve conceded in six straight, both teams have scored in all six of their last six, and they’ve been dragged into far too many end-to-end games. If Bohemians can keep their nerve, the home side’s chance count should be good enough to cause real damage.

Head-to-Head

These two have developed a habit of producing close games, and the recent history is hard to ignore. Shelbourne are unbeaten in the last four meetings, which gives them a slight psychological edge, but that run has included plenty of stalemates. The league clash on 16 March ended 0-0 at Shelbourne, and the two sides drew 2-2 in a friendly in January. Before that, Shelbourne edged a 3-2 win at Bohemians in October 2025, which is the kind of result that tells you neither team can relax for a second.

The longer pattern is even more telling. There have been several draws, plus a couple of narrow one-goal wins either way. These games usually stay alive deep into the second half. That matters here. It won’t be a surprise if both teams score again. It usually happens when these two meet, and both current form lines point the same way.

We Predict: Home Win

We’re backing Bohemian FC to win at 10/11 here. If you want to dig a bit deeper here, the betting guides hub pulls together all of our core football betting explainers so you can jump straight to the market or strategy you need. It’s not a free hit — Shelbourne’s away record is strong, and they’ve already shown they can score on the road — but the home side have the better overall league position, the more stable defensive numbers, and the stronger underlying chance profile. Bohemians also have the right kind of frustration driving them. They’ve gone too long without a win, and this is the sort of home game they simply have to grab.

The scoreline call is 2-1 to Bohemians. That fits the shape of both teams right now. Bohemians should create enough to get over the line, but Shelbourne have scored in six straight and won’t disappear quietly. If you want a slightly safer angle, both teams to score will have plenty of appeal given the recent runs on both sides. Still, the home win feels the best play. Bohemians need it more, and that can matter.
