Borussia M'gladbach — Last 6
Borussia Dortmund — Last 6

Borussia M’gladbach host Borussia Dortmund on Sunday evening in the Bundesliga, and it’s a meeting that means very different things to the two clubs. Gladbach are marooned in 11th and spending the spring in that awkward zone between safety and ambition — too far from the European places to dream, too far from danger to panic. Dortmund, by contrast, are right in the thick of the title race or at least the top-end pressure that comes with finishing second. They arrive in 2nd place with 67 points, and every week now carries weight. Drop points here and the chase tightens. Take three and the heat stays on.

For Eugen Polanski’s side, the situation is simple enough: they need a spark, and they haven’t found one for weeks. For Niko Kovač’s Dortmund, the task is about control. They’ve got the superior squad, the stronger league position and the better away record. But Gladbach at home aren’t a side you can just assume will roll over, especially when this fixture has a habit of producing goals. The question isn’t whether Dortmund should be favourites. They absolutely should. The question is whether Gladbach can drag them into a messy, open game.

And that’s where the betting angle comes alive. Both teams have been involved in plenty of end-to-end contests in this matchup over the years, and both arrive with enough flaws to leave room for goals at both ends. Dortmund are sharper and far more reliable, but Gladbach have enough attacking life in them to trouble almost anyone at home. Not enough to feel secure. Enough to land a punch.

Borussia M'gladbach Form & Analysis

Gladbach come into this one stuck in a frustrating rut. Their last six games have been a slow grind of draws, with a 0-0 at Wolfsburg on 25 April, a 1-1 home draw against Mainz, a 1-0 defeat at Leipzig, a 2-2 draw with Heidenheim in front of their own fans, a 2-2 friendly at Osnabrück and that wild 3-3 at Köln. One winless run after another. They haven’t won in six, and that’s the blunt reality. Even the results that looked promising slipped away. The 2-2 against Heidenheim felt like two points dropped. The point at Wolfsburg was decent enough, but hardly a springboard.

The recent numbers fit the mood. Against Wolfsburg, Gladbach barely threatened, managing just 0.51 xG from ten shots, with only two on target and no big chances created. They were second-best for long spells and only the lack of cutting edge from Wolfsburg saved them from worse. Then came the red card for Jens Castrop in stoppage time, which at least explained part of the tension. Still, this isn’t a side dictating games. It’s a side hanging on, scrambling for moments, and living off scraps more often than not.

At home, the picture is mixed at best. Gladbach’s league record at their ground reads four wins, six draws and five losses, with 19 goals scored and 24 conceded. That’s not the profile of a team that controls matches in front of its own fans. They can score, sure. They also concede too easily. The balance is off. Fourteen teams in the division have been better at home, and that’s why this is still a mid-table season rather than anything more meaningful. They do have one useful edge: they’ve scored in enough home matches to keep opponents honest. But keeping Dortmund quiet? That’s a different job entirely.

The weak spot is obvious. Gladbach don’t finish enough of their chances, and they don’t defend their box with enough conviction when the pressure rises. One clean sheet in six would be fine if they were grinding out wins at the other end. They’re not. That’s the problem. They can make a match uncomfortable. They can’t make it simple.

Borussia Dortmund Form & Analysis

Dortmund arrive in far better shape. Their last six tell a much healthier story: a 4-0 demolition of Freiburg on 26 April, a narrow 2-1 loss at Hoffenheim, a 1-0 home defeat to Leverkusen, then a 2-0 win at Stuttgart, a 3-2 home victory over Hamburger SV and a 2-0 success against Augsburg. Three wins from their last four league outings. That’s the sort of run that keeps pressure on the front-runners and keeps the mood around the club sharp. The Freiburg result in particular sent a clear message. Dortmund were ruthless. They didn’t just win, they swatted Freiburg away.

The performance against Freiburg was as convincing as the scoreline suggests. Dortmund generated 3.37 xG, produced five big chances and limited Freiburg to 0.76 xGA. They had 17 shots, five on target and the game looked done long before the final whistle. That’s the version of Dortmund Kovač wants more often: aggressive early, efficient in the final third and quick to turn control into goals. The loss at Hoffenheim was a setback, and the home defeat to Leverkusen showed they can still be picked off by strong opposition. But the overall trend is positive. They’re scoring freely, defending well enough and arriving here with real purpose.

Their away record is especially strong. Eight wins, five draws and just two defeats on the road, with 28 goals scored and 17 conceded. That’s a serious away profile. Not a flaky travelling side, not a team that needs the comfort of home to function. They travel with conviction. They score in bursts. They also keep things relatively tight at the back, which is why they’ve been able to sustain a push near the top. You don’t get to 67 points by accident. You certainly don’t do it with a weak away record.

Dortmund’s balance is what stands out most here. They’re not flawless, but they’ve got a structure that Gladbach simply don’t match. If they find the first goal, they’ll fancy adding another. And if Gladbach chase the game, the spaces will open up. That won’t be easy for the hosts to survive.

Head-to-Head

This fixture has a habit of producing something more entertaining than a cautious tactical stalemate. Dortmund have avoided defeat in the last six league meetings, which gives them a clear psychological edge as well as the better current standing. The most recent clash, in December 2025, ended 2-0 to Dortmund in Dortmund, and that followed a 3-2 home win for them in April 2025. Gladbach did hold them to a 1-1 draw in Mönchengladbach in December 2024, but that’s the exception rather than the rule.

The broader pattern leans toward goals and Dortmund control. Six of the last seven meetings have seen both teams score, and this match-up often moves quickly from one box to the other. Gladbach have also failed to keep a clean sheet in eight straight meetings with Dortmund. That matters. It’s hard to see them changing that trend against a side sitting second in the table and scoring at a strong rate away from home.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 8/15 for this one. If you want to widen the search beyond this pick, our football tips hub pulls together our main football tips hub with singles, goals picks and combo angles in one place. Dortmund are the stronger side, no argument there, but Gladbach at home usually find a way to contribute something, even when the overall result goes against them. They’ve scored 19 goals in 15 home league matches, which isn’t elite but it’s enough to keep this market alive. Dortmund’s away record points to goals at their end too — 28 scored and only 17 conceded on the road — and the recent head-to-head trend is hard to ignore. This fixture keeps producing chances.

A 1-2 Dortmund win fits best. Dortmund have the cleaner attacking shape, the better form and the stronger away numbers, while Gladbach are just functional enough at home to nick a goal. If you want a slightly bolder angle, Dortmund to win and both teams to score has plenty of appeal, but BTTS alone feels the safer way in.
