Botev Plovdiv — Last 6
Cherno More Varna — Last 6

Botev Plovdiv host Cherno More Varna on Saturday evening in the First Professional League’s qualifying round, and there’s plenty riding on it for both sides. Botev come in as the fourth-placed team with 43 points, still trying to steady themselves after a rough spell, while Cherno More sit top with 54 and are chasing every last point that could keep their title push alive. This is the sort of fixture that can sharpen or spoil a finish to the season. One side wants to halt the slide. The other wants to keep the pressure on everyone else.

The first leg of this little two-game story went Cherno More’s way in Varna, where they won 2-0 on 9 May. That result matters. It means Botev now have to respond at home, where they’ve been far too leaky for a side sitting inside the top four, while Cherno More arrive with real confidence and a clean, controlled rhythm to their play. No one’s talking about a casual end-of-season stroll here. Both clubs know exactly what a win would mean.

Botev Plovdiv Form & Analysis

Botev’s recent run has been messy, and that’s putting it politely. They lost 1-2 at home to Arda Kardzhali on 12 May after being second-best in key moments, then had already been beaten 2-0 by Cherno More in Varna three days earlier. Before that came another home defeat, 0-2 against Lokomotiv Plovdiv on 3 May. That’s three straight losses, and all three have left a mark. The only relief in the last month came on the road, where they beat Arda Kardzhali 2-0 on 26 April and FK Dobrudzha Dobrich 3-0 on 14 April. Sandwiched between those was a 1-1 draw with Lokomotiv Plovdiv at home. It’s been a stop-start run, and the home form is the main concern.

At their own ground, Botev’s league record is not what you’d expect from a team in fourth. They’ve taken just 19 points from 17 home matches, with five wins, four draws and eight defeats. They’ve scored 19 and conceded 23 there. That’s a poor return. Simple as that. A home side that ships more than it scores won’t frighten anyone, especially not a top visitor like Cherno More. Even Botev’s more encouraging attacking moments have been blunted by a defence that keeps giving away something — a soft goal, a bad spell, a lapse at the wrong time.

The defeat to Arda on 12 May summed it up. Botev did create chances, finishing with 14 shots and seven on target, and their xG of 1.90 was decent enough on paper. But they still lost 2-1 and never really imposed control once the game opened up. They’ve now gone three matches without a win, and they’ve also gone three games without a clean sheet. That’s not the profile of a side ready to bully a league leader. They can score. They can also let you in. That combination tends to cause trouble against disciplined opponents.

Cherno More Varna Form & Analysis

Cherno More arrive with the sort of composure Botev would love to have right now. Their last six reads like a side that knows exactly how to manage games: a 2-0 home win over Lokomotiv Plovdiv on 12 May, a 2-0 win over Botev on 9 May, a 0-0 draw at Arda Kardzhali on 3 May, and a 1-0 away win at Lokomotiv Plovdiv on 26 April. Before that came a 4-0 home defeat to CSKA 1948 Sofia on 15 April, which looks like an ugly outlier rather than a trend, and a 0-0 draw away to Ludogorets on 9 April. Four games unbeaten now. Better still, they’ve won their last two without conceding. That’s exactly the kind of run you want heading into a tough away fixture.

Their overall league numbers are stronger than Botev’s too. Cherno More are first with 54 points from 14 wins, 12 draws and only eight defeats, and their defensive record stands out: 26 goals conceded in the league is excellent. Away from home, they’ve been the best travelling side in the division, with 27 points from 17 matches. They’ve won seven, drawn six and lost four, scoring 19 and conceding only 12. Those are proper away figures. You don’t get those by accident. They travel well because they don’t panic, and because they don’t give much away.

There’s also a practical edge to the way Ilian Iliev’s side are handling this qualifying round. They kept Botev quiet in the 2-0 win on 9 May, and then followed it with another clean-sheet victory against Lokomotiv Plovdiv. Asen Chandarov and Asen Donchev did the damage in that latest match, while the fact that Cherno More could still close out the game even after Ivaylo Ivanov’s second yellow late on says a lot about their control. They’re not living dangerously. They’re managing games well. That matters away from home, where you can’t afford a wild tempo.

Head-to-Head

These sides know each other well enough by now, and the recent meetings have been tight rather than wild. Cherno More’s 2-0 win in Varna on 9 May is the freshest reference point, but Botev had won the previous home meeting 2-1 in November 2025. Go back a little further and the pattern stays familiar: Cherno More won 2-1 in July 2025, the teams drew 1-1 in April 2025, and Botev edged a 1-0 home win in October 2024.

The broader picture is simple enough. These games usually don’t blow up into chaos. Five of the last seven meetings have gone under 2.5 goals, and that feels consistent with how these teams approach each other. Cherno More have also kept Botev without a clean sheet in four of those clashes. That’s a useful edge. Not a huge one, but a useful one.

We Predict: Double Chance 1X

Double Chance 1X at 1/2 looks the right play for this one. Botev have home advantage, and even though their form has been poor, they’ve still got enough about them to avoid being rolled over in front of their own crowd. The market gives you room for a draw as well, which feels important here because Cherno More are the stronger side but not always a side that blows opponents away away from home.

The best argument for this bet is the balance of the fixture. Cherno More are the better team, no doubt, and their away record is excellent, but Botev’s recent losses haven’t all been one-sided. The projected 1-1 scoreline fits the shape of the game: a tight contest, one goal apiece, and enough defensive structure on both sides to keep it from turning into a track meet. If you wanted a slightly more ambitious angle, under 2.5 goals has a decent case too. These meetings usually stay contained.
