Carrarese — Last 6
Cesena — Last 6

Carrarese host Cesena on Friday afternoon in Serie B, and both sides arrive with plenty still to play for in a tight mid-table race. Carrarese sit 10th on 43 points, just behind Cesena in 9th on 45, so this isn’t simply a routine end-of-season fixture. It’s a game that can reshape who finishes where in the pack, with a few points either side of the line enough to change the mood completely.

For Antonio Calabro’s Carrarese, the bigger picture is simple enough: a strong finish could lift them into the top half and give them a more flattering final standing. For Ashley Cole’s Cesena, the target is similar, but with a slightly better platform. They’re ahead by two points, yet their recent form has gone flat and the gap doesn’t feel secure at all. These are two teams who’ve spent much of the season living in that awkward space between comfort and ambition. Neither can relax. Neither looks fully convincing.

The journey into this one has been a mixed bag for both. Carrarese were thumped 3-0 away to Frosinone last time out after drawing 2-2 at home with Pescara, while Cesena were held 0-0 by Sampdoria on home turf after back-to-back away defeats at Palermo and Juve Stabia. That tells you plenty. One side has been edging games at home but wobbling away; the other has been sturdy enough to keep close in matches, yet not sharp enough to turn them their way. Friday’s meeting looks finely balanced. It also looks like goals are in the conversation.

Carrarese Form & Analysis

Carrarese’s recent run has been a proper mixed stretch, and the story changes depending on where you start. They beat Sampdoria 2-0 at home in mid-March, then went to Bari and pulled off a tidy 3-0 away win. That was a strong little burst. A 3-1 home victory over Spezia followed, and for a moment they looked like a side ready to push on. Since then, though, it’s been much messier. They were beaten 2-0 away at Reggiana, drew 2-2 with Pescara at home, and then got turned over 3-0 at Frosinone. Three games without a win. That’s the reality now.

The home numbers are still decent, though, and that matters here. Carrarese’s record at their ground reads seven wins, seven draws and four defeats, with 26 goals scored and only 17 conceded. That’s not the profile of a side you fancy running over lightly. They’ve been reasonably hard to beat at home, and they’ve generally made games competitive there. Mind you, the recent 2-2 with Pescara did show the familiar flaw. They can score, but they don’t always shut the door. They’ve now gone four matches without a clean sheet, which is hardly ideal when facing a rival only two points behind them.

What also stands out is the way their home games often have a bit of life to them. They can get on the front foot, and when they do, they’re not shy about committing numbers forward. The downside is obvious. Space opens up the other way. Frosinone punished them ruthlessly, and even in games where they’ve looked lively, they’ve still allowed too much. That’s why Carrarese’s home record looks solid on paper but less secure when you dig a little deeper. They don’t look like a team built to lock things down for 90 minutes. Not at all.

Cesena Form & Analysis

Cesena arrive in a similar mood, only with slightly less confidence in the final third. Their last six tells the tale. A 3-1 home win over Catanzaro in March briefly suggested momentum, but since then it’s been a grind: a 3-0 defeat away to Mantova, a 1-1 home draw with Südtirol, a 2-0 loss at Juve Stabia, another 2-0 defeat at Palermo, and then that goalless draw with Sampdoria. One win from their last six. Four matches without a victory. That’s not the form of a side heading in with swagger.

Away from home, Cesena have at least done enough to keep themselves in the mix overall. Their away record stands at six wins, three draws and nine defeats, with 17 goals scored and 27 conceded. The shape of that record is telling. They’ve been capable of nicking results on the road, but they’ve also been vulnerable when the game becomes stretched. Conceding 27 away goals is a chunky figure. You don’t need much imagination to see why opponents fancy their chances against them, especially if the home side can start quickly and force the issue.

Ashley Cole’s side also come into this with a recurring problem in their away matches: they’re often chasing the game, and that changes everything. They were beaten to the punch again at Palermo and Juve Stabia, and they’ve now gone several away trips without really imposing themselves. Even the recent stalemate with Sampdoria at home felt subdued. Their xG against Sampdoria was only 0.47, which says plenty about the lack of punch. Cesena can stay competitive, yes. Can they actually take control? That’s a much harder question.

The bigger issue is that their road form doesn’t travel with much authority. They’ve scored 17 away goals all season, which is respectable rather than scary, but the defensive numbers are harder to ignore. Nine away defeats and 27 conceded paints a picture of a team that’s open too often when they leave home. Still, they’re not easy to write off completely. They’ve shown enough in flashes to suggest they can find a goal if the match opens up. That keeps them alive in this fixture. It also makes them dangerous to trust.

Head-to-Head

Recent meetings between these two have been lively enough, and the pattern leans towards both teams finding the net. Cesena beat Carrarese 2-1 in October 2025, while Carrarese returned the favour with a 2-0 home win in December 2024. Before that, Cesena won 2-1 again in August 2024 and Carrarese edged a 3-2 battle in March 2024 in Serie C. Go back a bit further and you find more of the same. These sides rarely settle things quietly.

That history matters because it matches the shape of the current fixture. The meetings haven’t been cagey, and neither side tends to control the other for long. Cesena have taken seven of the last eight first goals in this matchup, which is a handy edge, but the bigger picture is the scoring trend. Six of the last seven head-to-heads have seen both teams score. That’s a proper pattern, and it’s hard to ignore when the current form of both teams also points in the same direction.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 8/13 here, and that price feels fair enough for a game with this sort of shape. Carrarese have scored in three of their last four, Cesena have found it hard to keep clean sheets away from home, and both clubs arrive with just enough attacking threat to make the other nervous. This isn’t a banker, but it’s the clearest angle on the board.

The likely scoreline is 1-1. That fits the form, the standings and the general feel of the contest. Carrarese are usually competitive at home, Cesena are awkward enough to avoid being rolled over, and both sides have been too patchy defensively to inspire confidence in a shutout. If you wanted a slightly different play, the recent meeting trend makes Over 2.5 Goals worth a glance, but BTTS still looks the sharper call.
