Fatih Karagümrük — Last 6
Gençlerbirliği — Last 6

Fatih Karagümrük host Gençlerbirliği at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium on Sunday evening, 3 May 2026, in a Trendyol Süper Lig meeting that carries real weight at the wrong end of the table. Aleksandar Stanojević’s side are 18th with 21 points and staring at a relegation scrap they can’t afford to mismanage, while Volkan Demirel’s Gençlerbirliği sit 14th on 28 points and are trying to put enough daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

For Karagümrük, this is about survival, plain and simple. They’ve only won five league matches all season and their goal difference of 27 scored and 53 conceded tells you why they’re stuck down there. Gençlerbirliği aren’t exactly flying, but they’re in a far better position to breathe. One more positive result here would keep the pressure off and make the closing weeks far more comfortable.

The recent journey into this one tells a fairly ugly story for both clubs. Karagümrük are winless in three league matches, while Gençlerbirliği arrive off a home win over Kocaelispor that stopped the rot after a miserable run. There’s not much glamour in this fixture, but there’s plenty riding on it. These are the sort of matches that decide whether a season feels tense or truly desperate.

Fatih Karagümrük Form & Analysis

Karagümrük’s last month has been a proper grind. They were held 0-0 away at Beşiktaş on 27 April, which sounds respectable until you look at the numbers underneath it. They had just 0.67 xG, took 12 shots and only three hit the target, while Beşiktaş created far more danger. Before that, they lost at home to Eyüpspor, and that one hurt because it was another missed chance to build momentum in front of their own fans. Go back a little further and there’s a better result in the mix — a 2-1 home win over Çaykur Rizespor — but the broader picture is still patchy. They’ve been too easy to shake, and too inconsistent to trust.

The home record is part of the problem. Karagümrük have won four, drawn three and lost eight at home in the league, scoring 15 and conceding 22. That’s not the profile of a side that should feel comfortable at their own ground. They’ve had some decent moments there, including the 2-0 win over Fenerbahçe on 13 March, but they haven’t turned home advantage into a steady source of points. The pattern is familiar: one good result, then a setback. One step forward, one back. That won’t keep you up for long.

What stands out most is how little margin they’ve left themselves. They’ve won only two of their last six league matches overall, and even those victories haven’t led to a sustained run. Stanojević’s side are not getting enough goals to cover the defensive cracks, and when they do create chances, they rarely overwhelm opponents. Their xG projection for this one sits at 1.4, which is solid enough, but it’s not the sort of number that screams control. Karagümrük need a fast start here. If they drift, this could get nervy in a hurry.

Gençlerbirliği Form & Analysis

Gençlerbirliği arrive with slightly better recent momentum, though that’s not saying much in a season that’s still been filled with too many flat afternoons. Their most recent league game was a 1-0 home win over Kocaelispor on 26 April, settled by Metehan Mimaroğlu’s first-half penalty after VAR intervened. It wasn’t pretty. Their xG was only 0.27, they had eight shots and just two on target, and yet they found a way. Sometimes that’s enough. Sometimes it isn’t. Still, after conceding two at home to Galatasaray and being beaten 3-0 at Başakşehir, that small victory at least gave them a lift.

The away form is the real concern. Gençlerbirliği have won only one league match on the road all season, with three draws and 11 defeats. They’ve scored just nine away goals and conceded 22, which is a brutal away return by any standard. The only away win came at Beşiktaş on 18 October 2025, a result that looks increasingly like an outlier rather than a template. Since then, the road has been mostly hostile territory. They’ve struggled to defend properly away from home and they don’t score enough to compensate. That’s a bad combination.

There is a slight edge in their recent overall trajectory, though. They’ve won their last match and they’ve shown they can dig in when needed. Gençlerbirliği are not a team that travels with confidence, yet they’re a bit more organised than Karagümrük in the bigger picture, and their league position reflects that. Sitting 14th with 28 points, they’re not safe in any relaxed sense, but they’re better placed than their hosts. The issue is whether they can carry even a fraction of their home resilience into an away setting that’s repeatedly exposed them. On current evidence, you’d expect another tight, uneasy evening.

Head-to-Head

Gençlerbirliği have had the better of this fixture lately, and that matters. They beat Karagümrük 3-0 in Ankara on 7 December 2025, a result that was more convincing than the scoreline on the day suggested. Before that came a 1-0 home win in the 1. Lig and a goalless draw in Istanbul, which means Gençlerbirliği are unbeaten in the last three meetings and haven’t conceded a goal in any of them.

That recent edge gives them a small psychological lift, even if this is a different stage and a different level of pressure. Karagümrük haven’t solved the puzzle yet. Not even close. When one side keeps getting the better of a matchup without conceding, it tends to hang around in the background.

We Predict: Double Chance 1X

We’re backing Double Chance 1X at 4/9 here, and it looks a sensible, straightforward play. Our accumulator tips page is a useful companion here because it pulls together accumulator tips if you want to turn similar reads into a stronger combo ticket. Karagümrük’s home record isn’t pretty, but Gençlerbirliği’s away form is worse. A lot worse. They’ve taken only one away win all season and have scored just nine times on the road, so asking them to win this in Istanbul feels like too big a stretch.

The 1-1 correct score fits the shape of it. Karagümrük should have enough territory and enough ball to avoid defeat, but they’ve only scored 15 home league goals and don’t exactly blow teams away. Gençlerbirliği are capable of nicking a goal — they just did it against Kocaelispor — and their recent head-to-head edge means a draw is very much live. If you want a slightly sharper angle, under 2.5 goals isn’t a bad shout either. This one has all the signs of a tense, modest-scoring scrap.
