FC Argeș Pitești — Last 6
Universitatea Craiova — Last 6

FC Argeș Pitești host Universitatea Craiova in the SuperLiga championship round on Monday evening, 27 April 2026, with the stakes very different for each side. Argeș are trying to steady themselves in sixth place and, more importantly, rediscover a bit of punch at home after a string of tight, frustrating games. Craiova, sitting second, are chasing the business end of the title race and can’t afford to keep handing out cheap points.

This is the sort of fixture that can shape a run-in. For Bogdan Andone’s side, there’s pressure to turn good resistance into actual wins. For Filipe Coelho’s team, it’s about staying on the front foot and keeping pace with the leaders. Craiova also arrive with a recent head-to-head edge to defend, though Argeș did spring a surprise in March. That won’t have been forgotten in either camp.

FC Argeș Pitești Form & Analysis

Argeș come into this one with a flat, stubborn sort of form line. Their last six have brought just one win, and that came away at Craiova in mid-March, a result that looks even more eye-catching now because it remains their last victory. Since then, they’ve gone five matches without winning, and the pattern is pretty clear: they’re hard to beat for long stretches, but they’re not doing enough at the sharp end.

The recent run tells the story well enough. They held FC Rapid București to a 0-0 draw away on 13 April, then were edged 1-0 at home by CFR 1907 Cluj four days later. Before that, there was a 1-1 draw with FC Dinamo București in Pitești, and a 0-1 home defeat to FC Universitatea Cluj. The cup tie with FC Universitatea Cluj on 21 April was a repeat of sorts — another 1-1, this time with Ricardo Matos scoring from the spot and Oucasse Mendy adding the second-half leveller. Tight games everywhere. Very tight. They’ve scored in only some of them, and when they haven’t, they’ve looked short of ideas.

Their home record is a real concern. Argeș have taken just one point from three league matches on their own pitch in this championship round, with no wins, one draw and two defeats. They’ve scored only once at home and conceded three. That’s a meagre return, even in a low-scoring phase. In fact, the biggest pattern around them is that these matches keep staying under control, but also underwhelming. The attacking numbers aren’t strong enough to force games open, and the margin for error is tiny when they fall behind. One goal doesn’t feel like much security. For Argeș, it usually isn’t.

Still, there’s some resilience here. They’ve kept matches close, and that counts for something against stronger opponents. Their defensive shape has often kept them alive late into games, but the problem is obvious: if they don’t nick the first goal, they’re often left chasing a match they don’t really have the tools to open up. That’s the central issue again on Monday night.

Universitatea Craiova Form & Analysis

Craiova arrive in better overall shape, even if their recent run has had a little wobble in it. The 4-0 defeat at FC Universitatea Cluj on 13 April was a proper jolt. One of those nights where nothing sticks, nothing works, and you wonder where the rhythm’s gone. But they responded the right way. A 1-0 home win over FC Rapid București followed, and then they went to FC Dinamo București in the cup and came through a long, tense contest that finished 0-0 after 90 minutes, with the game eventually decided deep into extra time on the night. They’ve shown enough steel to avoid a slump. That matters.

Before the stumble in Cluj, Craiova had already beaten CFR 1907 Cluj 2-0 at home and won 1-0 away at Dinamo in the league. That’s a decent response to pressure. They don’t need fireworks to get results; they’re comfortable winning lean games when they’re organised and patient. Filipe Coelho has a side that can control space, keep things compact and wait for the match to break their way. In this round, that’s usually a useful trait.

The away numbers are a bit mixed, though. Craiova’s league road record reads one win and one loss from two matches, with just one goal scored and four conceded. That’s not exactly reassuring. But context matters. The defeat at Universitatea Cluj was severe, yes, but it looks more like an outlier than a pattern, especially when placed beside the clean sheet away at Dinamo and the fact that they’ve generally looked more stable than Argeș overall. Can they be trusted to dominate on the road? Not really. Can they do enough to win a tight game against a side struggling to score at home? Absolutely.

There’s also a recurring theme here that suits Craiova. They’ve managed to stay difficult to break down in most of their recent meaningful matches, and they don’t need a high-tempo shootout to get what they want. That’s handy, because this trip doesn’t scream goals.

Head-to-Head

These two know each other well, and recent meetings have usually leaned Craiova’s way. The most recent league clash came on 13 March 2026, when Argeș went to Craiova and came away with a 1-0 win. That was a sharp reminder that this fixture isn’t one-sided, no matter what the broader records say. Argeș had a plan that night and carried it out. Craiova didn’t find a reply.

But over the longer run, Craiova have generally had the upper hand. They won 2-1 in Pitești in November 2025 and beat Argeș 3-1 at home in July 2025. Go back a little further and the pattern is even clearer: Craiova have won several of these meetings without being overly flashy, while Argeș have had to scrap for every point. One thing does stand out. Craiova have often scored first in this fixture, and that usually tilts the whole contest in their favour. If Argeș are forced to chase, they rarely look comfortable.

We Predict: Away Win

We’re backing the Away Win at 10/11 here, and that price still looks fair enough. Craiova are the stronger side in the table, they’ve got the better overall shape, and Argeș just aren’t doing enough at home to justify trust. Their home return of one goal in three league matches is a problem, especially against a team that can keep things tight and manage a lead.

The cleanest reading points to a narrow Craiova win, probably something like 1-2. That fits the tone of both teams. Argeș are good for a spell of resistance and a goal is not impossible — especially given the head-to-head history — but Craiova have more ways to win a game like this and more reason to push for it. If you want a livelier angle, Craiova to win and under 3.5 goals is the sort of combination that matches the feel of the fixture. This won’t need many.
