FC Bayern München — Last 6
1. FC Köln — Last 6

FC Bayern München host 1. FC Köln on Saturday afternoon in the Bundesliga, with the league title already wrapped up in Bavaria and the visitors still trying to drag themselves clear of danger. Bayern arrive as runaway leaders on 86 points, miles ahead of the pack and already through the hard graft of another long season under Vincent Kompany. Köln, by contrast, sit 14th on 32 points and are still looking over their shoulder. They’re not deep in the relegation zone, but they’re nowhere near safe either. Every point matters from here.

This is the kind of fixture that can be awkward for the favourite if it loses its edge. Bayern have little left to prove domestically, yet they still have standards to maintain. Köln need something from the game, but asking them to go to Munich and keep a clean sheet feels ambitious at best. The recent meeting between the two also leans firmly one way: Bayern won 3-1 in Cologne in January, then followed that up with a 4-1 cup win in October. The pattern is plain. Köln can score against them. They still usually come up short.

FC Bayern München Form & Analysis

Bayern’s recent run has had a slightly odd feel to it. They went to Mainz on 25 April and won 4-3 in a game that looked more like a track meet than a title defence. Four days later, they lost 5-4 away to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League knockout stage, which tells you everything about the mood: sharp going forward, open at the back, and never really boring. Then came a 3-3 draw at home to Heidenheim on 2 May, a result that would’ve annoyed Kompany even if the title race hadn’t long since been settled. It was too loose, too generous.

Since then, though, Bayern have steadied themselves a touch. They drew 1-1 at home to PSG on 6 May and then went to Wolfsburg on 9 May and nicked a 1-0 win, Michael Olise scoring the only goal after Harry Kane had missed a penalty. That’s three games unbeaten, and the clean sheet in Wolfsburg was useful after the chaos before it. Still, this team’s recent identity is obvious enough. They score plenty, they create plenty, and they allow chances too. The 117 goals they’ve scored in the league is absurd. So is the fact they’ve only lost once all season.

At home, Bayern have been ruthless, even if not flawless. Their record at the Allianz reads 13 wins, two draws and one loss, with 63 goals scored and only 18 conceded. That’s dominant stuff. The flip side? They’ve conceded in big home games and they’ve just let Heidenheim walk away with three goals. That won’t be forgotten by Köln, who only need one or two openings to make this a proper contest. Bayern are still the side you’d expect to dictate the ball, pin Köln back and create a stream of chances. The question is whether they keep the game tidy. Lately, that’s not been a given.

1. FC Köln Form & Analysis

Köln’s last six matches tell a story of a side stuck in the middle of too many nearly-moments. They beat Werder Bremen 3-1 at home on 12 April, and that looks like a brief surge of hope in hindsight. Since then, it’s been a mix of draws and defeats. They shared a 2-2 away with Frankfurt on 5 April, then drew 1-1 at St. Pauli on 17 April, lost 1-2 at home to Leverkusen on 25 April, and drew 2-2 away at Union Berlin on 2 May. Last weekend brought another home defeat, 1-3 to Heidenheim. Four matches without a win. That’s the sort of run that keeps pressure on a club in the lower half.

There are some decent attacking signs in there. Köln have scored in five of those six matches, and they’ve managed two away goals at Union and two more at Frankfurt. They’re not arriving in Munich as a team that shuts up shop for 90 minutes and hopes for the best. The problem is the other end. They’ve conceded in every one of those six, and the 58 goals allowed across the league season is a weak return for a side trying to stay above the trapdoor. They’ve also won only seven of 33 in the league overall. That’s thin. Very thin.

Their away record is the bigger worry. Just two wins, seven draws and seven defeats on the road, with 18 scored and 28 conceded. That’s not the profile of a team likely to frustrate Bayern for long stretches. They can compete in spells. They can even land a punch. But ask them to survive wave after wave of pressure away from home and the answer usually isn’t pretty. René Wagner will know that. His side need bravery, but they also need discipline, and those two things haven’t travelled together especially well this season. One more issue hangs over them too: they haven’t won in four, and the confidence that comes from that rarely appears by magic in Munich.

Head-to-Head

This fixture has been one-way traffic for a long time, and the recent meetings only sharpen that picture. Bayern beat Köln 3-1 in Cologne on 14 January 2026, then returned to the same ground and won 4-1 in the DFB Pokal on 29 October 2025. That’s two emphatic away wins, which matters here because it shows Bayern haven’t needed home comfort to handle this opponent.

Go back a little further and the trend stays familiar. Bayern won 2-0 at home in April 2024, 1-0 away in November 2023, and 2-1 away in May 2023. Köln did manage a 1-1 draw in Munich in January 2023, but that looks more like an exception than a warning sign. The bigger pattern is clear enough: Bayern have usually had control, and Köln have rarely managed a clean sheet. In this matchup, they often end up chasing the game.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 4/9 here. It’s short enough to make some people blink, but the price fits the shape of the fixture. Bayern’s home numbers are relentless and their recent matches have been full of chances at both ends. Köln, meanwhile, have scored in five of their last six and have found the net in nine straight meetings with Bayern according to the recent trend. That’s enough to make BTTS the cleanest angle.

The projected 3-1 scoreline feels right. Bayern should create the better chances and probably enough of them to win comfortably, but Köln have shown enough going forward to nick a goal, especially if Bayern’s defensive looseness from the Heidenheim and PSG games spills over again. An alternative is Bayern to win and both teams to score, but BTTS alone is the sharper play. Köln rarely leave Munich with much. They may at least leave with a goal.
