Jong Ajax — Last 6
Jong FC Utrecht — Last 6

Jong Ajax host Jong FC Utrecht at De Toekomst on Friday evening, 24 April 2026, in the Eerste Divisie, with both reserve sides chasing a decent finish to a long and uneven campaign. It’s not a glamour tie in the classic sense, but these matches usually carry their own edge: young players, open football, and plenty of room for chaos. That’s exactly why this one has goals written all over it.

The table tells a pretty clear story. Jong Ajax sit 20th with 35 points from 41 matches, while Jong FC Utrecht are 13th on 43 points. Neither side is fighting for silverware, but both still have something on the line — pride, momentum, and the chance to end the season with a few more points than their league position might suggest. For Jong Ajax, there’s also the simple need to stop the rot at home. For Utrecht, the away record is poor enough that any trip can turn awkward fast.

There’s also a shape to this fixture that’s hard to ignore. Jong Ajax have conceded 71 league goals overall, Jong FC Utrecht 62, and both teams have been involved in plenty of open games this spring. The expected numbers lean the same way too, with a projected scoreline of 1-2 and an xG split that points to chances at both ends. Don’t expect a cagey chess match. That won’t be this one.

Jong Ajax Form & Analysis

Jong Ajax’s recent form has been a mess, but not a dull one. They went to VVV-Venlo on 17 March and came away with a 1-0 win, then somehow followed that with a 0-2 home defeat to Almere City FC and a wild 4-2 loss at ADO Den Haag. The 1-2 home loss to TOP Oss was another blow, before a rare bright moment arrived at Jong PSV Eindhoven on 17 April, where they nicked a 1-0 away win. Between the defeats, there’s been no shortage of goals — just not enough of them going their way.

That’s been the story of their season. Jong Ajax’s home record reads five wins, five draws and eight defeats from 18 matches at De Toekomst, with 28 scored and 30 conceded. It’s not a fortress. Far from it. They’ve at least shown they can contribute to a decent game at home, though, and that matters here because their matches usually don’t stay quiet for long. The balance is fragile, and when it breaks, it tends to break hard.

The most recent outing at Jong PSV gave a nice little reminder of their two sides. They won 1-0, but the shot count was ugly — five attempts to PSV’s 17 — and they were living dangerously for long spells. Still, they took the big chances when they came, and Don O’Niel’s 57th-minute strike was enough. Before that, though, they’d been leaking goals for fun. Four defeats in five across that stretch is grim reading. Six goals conceded at Vitesse, four scored at ADO, and two shipped at home to TOP Oss. You can see why backing a tight Ajax performance feels risky.

The positive spin is simple: this team can score, and they can be forced into games. Their home record isn’t good enough to inspire confidence in a result bet, but it does support a goals angle. They’re not the sort of side that shuts an opponent out for 90 minutes. Not often, anyway.

Jong FC Utrecht Form & Analysis

Jong FC Utrecht come into this on a slightly steadier footing, though “steady” is doing a lot of work there. They drew 1-1 at FC Den Bosch on 20 April, a tidy response to the 3-0 home defeat to Vitesse and a reminder that they’re not completely at the mercy of the calendar. Before that, they beat FC Eindhoven 3-0 at home, lost 3-1 at TOP Oss, beat FC Dordrecht 3-1 at home, and went down 1-0 at ADO Den Haag. That’s a mixed run, but the common thread is obvious: when Utrecht are in a game, it usually opens up.

Their away form is rough enough to give anyone pause. Jong FC Utrecht have taken only 14 points from 18 away matches, with three wins, five draws and ten defeats. They’ve scored 19 and conceded 29 on the road, which is the kind of record that leaves very little room for optimism if you’re trying to keep things tidy. They don’t travel well, and they haven’t been reliable enough away from home to trust in a straight result market.

Still, they’ve got a bit more going for them going forward than Ajax do in the table. Their overall goal return is 56, which is healthy enough, and their recent games have often landed in the kind of scoreline range that suits over goals. The 3-0 win over FC Eindhoven was sharp and ruthless. The 3-1 loss at TOP Oss wasn’t disastrous from an attacking point of view either, because they found the net and stayed in the contest for periods. Even in the draw at Den Bosch, they got themselves level late on through Rafik El Arguioui after Thijs van Leeuwen had opened the scoring early.

The issue is the flip side. They’ve conceded 62 times already and don’t own many clean sheets away from home. That’s the danger here. If they get dragged into an end-to-end game, they’re usually part of the fun but not always the side finishing strongest. Against an Ajax team that’s been punchy but flimsy, though, that trade-off can still produce goals.

Head-to-Head

This fixture has been pretty generous to neutrals over the years. The most recent meeting, on 25 August 2025, saw Jong FC Utrecht edge Jong Ajax 4-3 in a full-blooded shootout. Before that, Jong Ajax won 2-1 away in February 2025, and the teams drew 0-0 in Amsterdam in October 2024. Go back a little further and you find more of the same: Jong Ajax won 1-0 in February 2024, 2-1 at home in December 2023, while Jong FC Utrecht took a 1-0 home win in April 2023 and a 2-1 victory in December 2022.

There’s no sign of a pattern of caution here. The meetings swing both ways, but they regularly produce goals and enough momentum shifts to keep you watching. One quiet note, though: less than 4.5 cards has landed in four of the last five meetings between the sides. It’s a cleaner rivalry than some, even if the scorelines aren’t.

We Predict: Over 2.5 Goals

We’re backing Over 2.5 Goals at 4/9 for this one. It’s short, yes, but it’s still the standout angle. Jong Ajax have been involved in plenty of loose, open games lately, and Jong FC Utrecht have been even better for goals on the road than for control. Their last away trip finished 1-1 at Den Bosch, and before that they were in a 3-1 defeat at TOP Oss. Put those patterns together and three goals feels well within reach.

The projected numbers point the same way, with a 1.5 to 1.6 xG split and a correct-score lean of 1-2. That feels about right. Jong Ajax can nick one at home, but their defending is too porous to trust, and Utrecht have enough forward thrust to hurt them. Over 2.5 looks stronger than trying to call the winner. If you want a slightly bolder play, Jong FC Utrecht to score over 1.5 team goals is live too, especially against an Ajax side that’s conceded far too often on their own ground.
