Real Salt Lake — Last 6
Inter Miami CF — Last 6

Real Salt Lake host Inter Miami CF at the America First Field on 23 April 2026, with both sides arriving in decent nick and carrying a fair bit of momentum into this MLS meeting. For Pablo Mastroeni’s team, this is a chance to turn a strong early run into something more convincing at home. For Guillermo Angel Hoyos and Inter Miami, it’s about protecting a lofty standing in the Western-style travelling grind of MLS and proving they can keep picking up points away from home.

There’s plenty on the line even this early in the season. Inter Miami sit second in the table on 15 points, and their away record is the best in the league so far: four wins, one draw and just one defeat, with 12 scored and 10 conceded on their travels. Real Salt Lake don’t have the luxury of a league position in the data here, but they’ve done enough to suggest they’re not here to simply make up the numbers. They’ve won four of their last five league matches and arrive unbeaten in five. That won’t scare Miami, but it does make this a proper test.

The broad story is simple. Real Salt Lake are scoring freely and making games noisy. Inter Miami are almost impossible to keep quiet, but they’ve been leaking goals too. You don’t need a crystal ball to see where this one may go. Goals look likely. Lots of them.

Real Salt Lake Form & Analysis

Real Salt Lake’s recent run has the look of a side full of confidence and not especially interested in quiet evenings. They started with a 1-0 loss away to Vancouver Whitecaps on 22 February, but since then they’ve gone on a long unbeaten spell in league play, finding ways to score in different ways and against different types of opponent. A 2-1 home win over Seattle Sounders FC on 1 March gave the run a proper lift, then they went to Atlanta United and came away with a 3-2 win on 8 March, which says a lot about their willingness to trade blows. That sort of result can either harden a team or expose them. Right now, it looks like it’s hardening them.

The next steps were just as lively. Austin FC were beaten 2-1 at home on 15 March, before Real Salt Lake drew 2-2 away to San Diego FC on 23 March. That game was followed by their most eye-catching performance of the bunch, a 4-2 home win over the same San Diego side on 19 April. The margin was convincing, but the process was even better. They generated 2.63 xG, allowed only 0.51 xGA, landed nine shots on target and created six big chances. That’s not just a team nicking a result. That’s a team in command.

At home, the story has been encouraging. The most recent evidence points to a side that’s sharp in attack and not shy about going for the throat when games open up. The main warning sign is obvious enough: they don’t keep clean sheets, and they’ve now gone 15 matches without one. Still, they’ve also scored heavily in a stretch that includes six straight games going over 2.5 goals and six straight where both teams have scored. That’s a serious trend. Three of those home wins have come with Real Salt Lake scoring at least twice, and that’s the kind of consistency that can unsettle any visitor. The flip side? If they don’t get on top early, they’re exposed.

Inter Miami CF Form & Analysis

Inter Miami’s recent form is tidy on the surface and a bit messier underneath. The results are mostly positive, but they’ve had to work hard for them. The latest was a 3-2 win away to Colorado Rapids on 18 April, a game that swung around quickly and finished with a red card for Yannick Bright late on. It wasn’t a clean performance. Far from it. Miami posted only 0.45 xG, were outshot 14-6 and spent long periods leaning on moments rather than control. Yet they still found a way to take all three points. That’s what strong sides do. They survive nights that don’t flatter them.

Before that, they drew 2-2 at home with New York Red Bulls on 12 April, then beat New York City FC 3-2 away on 22 March. In between came the CONCACAF Champions Cup tie against Nashville SC, which ended 1-1 at home on 19 March and 0-0 away on 12 March. The pattern is clear enough. Inter Miami are almost always in games, almost always scoring, and almost always leaving the door open at the back. They’ve now gone nine matches unbeaten, which is a healthy run by any standard. But unbeaten doesn’t mean dominant. This is a team living on thin margins.

Their away record in MLS is the part that really stands out. Four wins, one draw and one defeat from six on the road, plus 12 goals scored, is proper title-chasing form. They’ve also done it without becoming boring, which matters here. These away matches haven’t been cagey little affairs. They’ve been open, messy and usually decided by who lands the last punch. Inter Miami have scored in five straight, and they’ve gone five straight without a clean sheet too. That’s not a contradiction. It’s their identity. If you’re backing them, you’re backing firepower and resilience, not defensive certainty.

Mind you, there’s a limit to how long you can keep winning while conceding chances. Colorado created problems despite Miami taking the points, and Real Salt Lake are a more fluent attacking side than the Rapids. This is exactly the sort of away trip where Miami’s habits get tested.

Head-to-Head

The recent head-to-head sample is tiny, so there’s no point pretending there’s a deep historical pattern to lean on. The only meeting in the supplied data came on 22 February 2024, when Inter Miami beat Real Salt Lake 2-0 at home.

That result won’t shape this one on its own, but it does offer a small clue. Miami were able to manage that matchup without a fuss, and they’ve generally handled road trips well since then too. Real Salt Lake will see it differently. They’re a stronger attacking side now, and this meeting comes at a time when both teams are far more willing to play on the front foot.

We Predict: Double Chance X2

We’re backing Double Chance X2 at 8/13 for this one. Inter Miami’s away record is too strong to ignore, and they’ve gone nine unbeaten overall while keeping their scoring rate high enough to hurt almost anyone. Real Salt Lake are in excellent attacking form, but they’ve also been conceding regularly, and that makes the visitors a very live option to avoid defeat.

The scoreline call is 1-2 to Inter Miami. Real Salt Lake should get chances — they nearly always do at the moment — yet Miami have the sharper end of the pitch and enough away nous to nick it. There’s a case for Both Teams to Score as well, given both sides’ recent habits, but the double chance feels the safer angle in what should be a lively, open MLS game.
