Sporting CP — Last 6
Vitória SC — Last 6

Sporting CP welcome Vitória SC to Lisbon on Monday evening in a Liga Portugal Betclic meeting that still carries proper weight at both ends of the table. Sporting are sitting third on 73 points and chasing every last scrap of momentum after a frustrating run, while Vitória arrive in seventh on 42 points with European ambition still flickering, even if the gap to the sides above them leaves little room for waste.

For Sporting, this is about recovering a sense of control at a decisive point in the season. Rui Borges’ side have dropped points in three straight league games and haven’t won in five across all competitions. That’s not what title-chasing or Champions League-level standards look like. The crowd at the Estádio José Alvalade will expect a response. They usually do.

Vitória SC, under Gil Lameiras, come in with a very different mood. Their season hasn’t been flawless, but they’ve got a bit of rhythm again after beating Rio Ave and Gil Vicente, and they’ve made life awkward for enough opponents to believe they can make a night of this. The history between these two also points towards goals, and quite a few of them. That matters here.

Sporting CP Form & Analysis

Sporting’s last few weeks have had a strange, unfinished feel to them. They were held 2-2 at home by Tondela on 29 April after creating enough to edge it, then came away from AVS with a 1-1 draw on 26 April. Before that, they ground out a goalless draw at FC Porto in the Taça de Portugal, which at least showed resilience, but it was followed by a 2-1 home defeat to Benfica on 19 April. Sandwiched around that was a 0-0 draw away to Arsenal in the Champions League and a 1-0 win at CF Estrela Amadora. There’s quality there, no question. The problem is that the sharp edge has gone missing at the wrong time.

That latest draw with Tondela summed them up. Sporting had 16 shots, five on target and two big chances, and their xG of 1.67 was solid enough. They still didn’t win. They twice found themselves punished late on, including a painful own goal in stoppage time after Luis Javier Suárez had put them ahead. Then came another equaliser in the 90+4th minute from Cicero. That one will sting. You can’t keep inviting drama and expect to escape it forever. Five games without a win is a real concern for a side with their profile.

At home, though, the picture is still strong by league standards. Sporting’s home record reads 11 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats, with 43 scored and only 10 conceded. That’s excellent. It’s the kind of base that keeps them near the top even when the wider form flickers. They’ve been reliable in Lisbon for most of the campaign, and their attacking numbers at home are far stronger than Vitória’s road record. The issue is less about whether Sporting can create chances — they usually do — and more about whether they can turn territory into a clean, settled performance. Right now, they’re not giving themselves that luxury.

Vitória SC Form & Analysis

Vitória arrive with a brighter spring in their step. Their 2-0 home win over Rio Ave on 25 April was tidy rather than spectacular, but it was the sort of result that tells you a team is in decent working order. Samu opened the scoring in the 72nd minute, Tony Strata added the second deep into stoppage time, and the stats backed the outcome: 11 shots, two big chances and just 0.44 xGA conceded. Before that, they won 1-0 away at Gil Vicente on 18 April, which is the sort of away result that shifts the tone of a season.

There’s been a bit of variety in their recent run as well. They drew 1-1 away to AVS on 11 April and hammered Tondela 5-0 at home on 3 April, so there’s attacking capability there when the game opens up. The two defeats before that, the 3-0 loss at Benfica and the 2-1 home reverse against Famalicão, were less flattering, but those setbacks feel a little distant now. Since then, they’ve looked more settled. Four unbeaten from their last five is a decent return. Not bad at all.

Away from home, Vitória’s numbers are harder to trust. Their league away record is only four wins, two draws and nine defeats, with 12 goals scored and 25 conceded. That’s mid-table trouble, really, and it tells you why they’re 12th in the away table despite sitting seventh overall. They can nick results on the road — Gil Vicente was proof of that — but they’ve also been too easy to shake when the pressure rises. Sporting are a tougher proposition than most of the sides Vitória have dealt with away from Viana, and that’s the basic problem for Lameiras’ team. They’ll need to be compact, brave and efficient. Three hard asks in one match.

Head-to-Head

These meetings have had a lively streak to them in recent seasons. Sporting won 4-1 away at Vitória in December 2025, but Vitória answered in the Taça da Liga a few weeks later with a 2-1 home win over Sporting in January. Go back a little further and the pattern is even clearer: Sporting won 2-0 in May 2025, then the sides drew 4-4 at Vitória in January 2025, before Sporting won 3-0 at home in April 2024.

That’s a proper mix, but the one thing that stands out is goals. Their last six meetings have produced plenty of action, and both teams have usually found a way to get on the board. Vitória have also shown they’re not overawed by this fixture. They’ve scored in enough of these games to keep Sporting honest. Still, Sporting have had the better of the overall pattern, especially at home.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

Both Teams To Score at 10/11 is the pick here, and it feels like the cleanest angle in the game. If you want to dig a bit deeper here, the Saturday football predictions page pulls together Saturday football predictions for a broader Saturday coupon view. Sporting’s home record is strong enough to expect them to score, even with the recent wobble, and Vitória have enough form and confidence to fancy one goal themselves. The head-to-head record leans the same way, with plenty of these meetings turning open and both sides finding space in the final third. That’s the route in.

The projected 2-1 Sporting win fits the mood of the fixture nicely. Rui Borges’ side should have the edge in quality and possession, but they’ve been leaking moments lately, and Vitória have already shown they can punish hesitation. You’d expect Sporting to create enough. You’d also expect Vitória to land at least one punch. If you want a slightly safer alternative, Sporting to win and both teams to score is the sort of combo that looks live — but BTTS on its own is the sharper play.
