Tondela — Last 6
Moreirense — Last 6

Tondela host Moreirense at the Estádio João Cardoso on Monday evening, 11 May 2026, in a Liga Portugal Betclic meeting that matters at both ends of the table for very different reasons. Tondela are trying to drag themselves clear of the lower reaches after a miserable season, while Moreirense arrive in the top half with a decent chance of finishing strongly and protecting a respectable seventh-place position. There’s plenty riding on it, just not for the same people.

For Gonçalo Feio’s side, every point is precious now. They’re 17th with 25 points, and the home numbers explain why survival has felt like such a grind. Moreirense, under Vasco Costa, sit 7th on 42 points and have enough in hand to look up rather than down, but they can’t afford to drift. A win here would strengthen their push to finish as the best of the chasing pack behind the league’s bigger names. That’s the simple truth of it.

The trip to Tondela also comes with a bit of history. Moreirense edged the reverse fixture 1-0 in January and have generally had the better of this matchup in recent seasons. Tondela will think they’ve got a chance, though, because both sides have shown the same flaw over and over: they can score, but they can also leave the door open. That usually makes for a lively night. Usually.

Tondela Form & Analysis

Tondela finally got a lift last weekend, and they needed it. Their 1-0 away win at Casa Pia on 3 May was the kind of result that doesn’t just add three points, it stops the mood from sinking even lower. Bebeto’s 68th-minute penalty decided it, and the numbers behind the win were tidy enough too: 0.74 xG, only 0.38 xGA, nine shots to four and a clear edge in big chances. It wasn’t flashy. It didn’t need to be.

Before that, though, the picture was bleak. They drew 2-2 away to Sporting CP, a result that has to be taken seriously given the venue and opponent, but the positives were quickly drowned out by the home loss to CD Nacional, where they were beaten 2-0 and failed to turn possession into any real threat. There was also the 2-2 draw at home to Gil Vicente, another match that showed their basic issue: they can hang around, but they struggle to close games out. Even the 5-0 defeat away to Vitória SC and the 2-0 loss at FC Porto were reminders of how brittle they can look when the pressure comes on. This is a side that’s been living on the edge for months.

The home record is the bluntest warning of all. Tondela have taken just 10 points at home from a record of one win, seven draws and eight defeats, with 11 goals scored and 21 conceded on their own ground. One home win all season. That came against FC Arouca on 3 January, and it says everything about the problem. They don’t get blown away every week, but they’re too easy to keep at arm’s length and too often settle for a point when they need more. There is some resilience there, sure, but there’s not enough punch. Not nearly enough.

Moreirense Form & Analysis

Moreirense come into this on the back of one of the more dramatic wins of their season, edging CF Estrela Amadora 3-2 at home on 2 May. It was messy and open, with penalties, a missed spot-kick and a late winner from Maracás, but it also captured what they are: a team that can create enough to hurt sides, yet rarely keep things tidy. They generated 1.87 xG in that game, conceded 1.25, and had to keep going until the end to get the job done. That won’t bother Vasco Costa much. Three points are three points.

The problem is that their recent away form has been uneven and sometimes very soft. The 4-1 defeat at Benfica was a proper battering, and while nobody expects miracles at the Estádio da Luz, the scoreline still exposed the gap between good attacking intent and actual defensive control. Before that, they drew 1-1 away to Famalicão, which was a fair enough result, and at home they beat Estoril Praia 1-0 after losing to Braga and Arouca in back-to-back home games. So the story is familiar: capable of competing, liable to be stretched, and rarely able to build much momentum for long.

Their away record is decent without being convincing. Four wins, four draws and eight defeats from 16 away matches, with 17 goals scored and 26 conceded, tells you they can travel, but they can’t quite trust themselves. They’re averaging just over a goal a game on the road and conceding much more than that, which is why their matches often drift toward both teams getting chances. Still, with 42 points overall and a place in the top half comfortably secured, they’ve done enough this season to show they’re the better side on paper. The question is whether they can show it here without handing Tondela an opening.

Head-to-Head

Moreirense have had the better of this fixture lately, and the reverse meeting in January was another example of that. They beat Tondela 1-0 at home, and that result fits a broader pattern of control rather than chaos. Tondela haven’t beaten Moreirense in the last four meetings, and that’s not the sort of trend you ignore lightly.

There is one wrinkle, though: Tondela have also found a way to get on the scoresheet in this matchup over time, and Moreirense haven’t exactly turned these games into clean, one-sided shutouts. The meetings can be tighter than the league positions suggest. That matters here.

We Predict: Both Teams To Score

We’re backing Both Teams To Score at 4/5 for this one. If you want a few more angles around accumulator tips, our accumulator tips page pulls together accumulator tips if you want to turn similar reads into a stronger combo ticket. It’s the cleanest angle. Tondela are too fragile at home to be trusted for a shutout, but they’ve still found enough moments to score in recent games, and Moreirense have kept the same habit of giving opponents a route into matches. That’s a poor combination for anyone fancying a cagey 0-0.

The scoreline that keeps coming back is 1-1. It fits the xG projection almost perfectly, with Tondela at 1.1 and Moreirense at 1.0, and it also reflects the shape of both teams’ seasons: enough attacking threat to trouble each other, not enough defensive certainty to lock the door. If you want a small alternative, Moreirense to score first has some appeal given how often they’ve opened games up lately. But BTTS is the best play.
