Vitória SC — Last 6
Rio Ave — Last 6

Vitória SC host Rio Ave in the Liga Portugal Betclic on Saturday evening, 25 April 2026, with both sides still chasing a stronger finish to the season. Vitória sit seventh on 39 points and have a decent cushion over the teams below them, but there’s still room to climb if they finish strongly. Rio Ave are 12th on 34 points, not in immediate trouble, yet hardly comfortable either. A good run here and they can push away from the lower half. A poor one, and they’ll be looking over their shoulder again.

This is the sort of league game that can quietly shape the final month. Vitória have home advantage and a better goal difference, while Rio Ave arrive with an away record that’s far stronger than their overall table position suggests. That’s the tension in this one. Vitória have been more reliable at home. Rio Ave, awkwardly for the hosts, have travelled reasonably well. So this isn’t just about league place. It’s about which side can impose its usual pattern first.

Vitória SC Form & Analysis

Vitória’s recent league form has been a bit of a mixed bag, but there’s a clear sense of recovery after the bruising defeat at Benfica. They went to Lisbon on 21 March and were swept aside 3-0, a result that exposed the gap to the division’s elite. Since then, though, they’ve steadied themselves. A narrow home loss to Famalicão came next, but they responded by beating Tondela 5-0 at home on 3 April, a statement win that reminded everyone what they can do when the attack clicks. They followed that with a draw at AVS and then, last weekend, edged Gil Vicente 1-0 away from home. That’s three unbeaten now. Much better.

The recent numbers fit the story. Against Gil Vicente, Vitória didn’t dominate possession for long spells, but they were efficient enough to find the winner through Gustavo Silva in the 66th minute. There was also a VAR call that wiped out a first-half goal, so the margin was always going to be tight. The bigger point is that they’re not folding after setbacks. That’s been an issue at times this season. Now they’re showing a bit more steel. Their league record overall is 11 wins, six draws and 13 defeats, with 36 scored and 43 conceded. Not flashy. Not bad either. At home, though, they’ve been much more useful: seven wins, four draws and only four defeats, with 24 goals scored and 18 conceded at their ground.

That home split matters here. Vitória are far better when they can set the tempo in front of their own fans. They’ve scored 24 in 15 home league games, which is a healthy return, and their defensive numbers at home are respectable too. The weakness is obvious enough: they still give opponents chances, and the away drubbing at Benfica showed how quickly things can unravel if the structure slips. Even so, the Tondela win and the tight victory at Gil Vicente suggest they’ve got enough attacking punch to trouble a Rio Ave side that can be opened up.

Rio Ave Form & Analysis

Rio Ave come in with a much less stable overall profile, but their recent away results have given them a platform. They beat Tondela 1-0 on 9 March, then won at Estoril Praia 2-1 and at Santa Clara 2-0. Three straight away wins is no small thing. That run was broken by the home defeat to FC Alverca on 4 April, a 2-1 setback that reminded everyone how fragile they can still be when the game turns messy. They answered with another away victory, 2-0 at Santa Clara, before drawing 2-2 with AVS at home last Friday. Not bad, but it leaves them with one win in their last two and only a single clean sheet in that stretch.

That AVS match said plenty. Rio Ave were lively, created plenty and ended with 2.68 expected goals, which is a strong attacking return. They had 20 shots, eight on target and five big chances, and still couldn’t see it out. That’s the issue with them. They can produce enough going forward to make life awkward for most sides, but they don’t often shut the door. Ole Pohlmann opened the scoring early, Tomane and Pedro Lima added the rest, and yet they still gave up two at home. It was entertaining. It was also familiar. This team has scored 33 and conceded 50 in the league overall. That’s a hefty defensive bill.

Away from home, though, Rio Ave’s numbers are far more respectable than their league position suggests. They’ve taken 20 points on the road, with five wins, five draws and five defeats, and they’ve scored 17 away goals while conceding 25. That’s not the profile of a timid travelling side. They’ll have a go. The problem is that their matches rarely stay compact for long. If they concede first, they’re usually forced into a game they don’t especially want. If they score first, they still don’t always control it. You can see why their games have a habit of opening up.

Still, there’s enough here to cause Vitória problems. Rio Ave have won three of their last five away league matches and they’ve been competitive in most of those trips. That won’t scare Vitória, but it does make a simple home-win narrative feel a bit too neat. The visitors know how to get on the ball and ask questions. The issue is whether they can do it for 90 minutes without leaving themselves exposed. That’s where they’ve been letting themselves down.

Head-to-Head

Vitória have had the better of this fixture for a while, and the recent meetings lean their way again. Rio Ave lost 1-0 at home to Vitória in December 2025, and Vitória beat them 3-0 in Guimarães in April 2025. Before that, there was a 2-2 draw in Vila do Conde in December 2024, but you have to go back further to find a Rio Ave win, and even that was narrow enough. The pattern is pretty clear: Vitória generally get the better of these games, and Rio Ave usually struggle to keep them quiet.

One small angle stands out too. Rio Ave haven’t kept a clean sheet in seven straight meetings with Vitória. That’s hard to ignore. The hosts have also scored first in five of the last seven between them. Those trends fit the way this fixture tends to unfold — Vitória taking the initiative, Rio Ave chasing the game, and the scoreboard usually moving at least once at both ends.

We Predict: Over 2.5 Goals

We’re backing Over 2.5 Goals at 5/6 for this one. That price is fair enough for a match that brings together Vitória’s solid home scoring and Rio Ave’s fondness for an open contest. Vitória have scored 24 home league goals, Rio Ave have conceded 25 away, and the visitors have been involved in four of their last five league games going over the 2.5 line. That’s the clearest route in. Simple as that.

The expected scoreline is 2-1 to Vitória SC. That matches the shape of the game: Vitória with the better home record and the cleaner recent head-to-head edge, Rio Ave with enough threat to nick one of their own. A 2-0 home win wouldn’t shock anyone, but Rio Ave’s away scoring record and their recent attacking output at home suggest they should have chances. If you want a slightly safer angle, Both Teams to Score has plenty of appeal too. Still, the main call is the goals line. This one looks live for three.
