FC Blau Weiss Linz — Last 6
SCR Altach — Last 6

FC Blau Weiss Linz host SCR Altach at the Relegation Round stage of the Austrian Bundesliga on Friday evening, 24 April 2026, and the stakes are exactly what you’d expect at this point in the season. Every point matters now. For Blau Weiss Linz, this is about turning a strong recent run into safety and momentum, while Altach arrive needing to keep their own survival push steady and avoid getting dragged back into the mess.

There’s also a bit of familiarity to this one. These sides have already met twice in this relegation battle, with Altach winning both league games this season, including a 3-1 victory in Altach on 14 March and a 1-0 home win on 8 February. That gives Ognjen Zaric’s side a psychological edge, but it doesn’t change the shape of the contest much. Michael Köllner’s team are the sharper side right now, especially at home, and they’ve got the sort of attacking rhythm that can tilt a tight game their way.

Blau Weiss Linz also come in with the better-looking numbers from their most recent outing. Their 3-0 home win over Wolfsberger AC on 21 April was a proper statement: a 2.03 to 0.52 xG edge, three big chances to one, and a clean sheet that looked controlled rather than fluky. Altach, by contrast, could only manage a 0-0 draw at home to WSG Tirol on the same night, a match in which they created little and leaned on defensive discipline. That’s the contrast here. One side is carrying genuine attacking bite. The other is trying to stay compact and nick something.

FC Blau Weiss Linz Form & Analysis

Blau Weiss Linz have found a useful groove at the right time. Their last six league matches tell a story of a side that’s no longer easy to push around. They beat Wolfsberger AC 3-0 at home on 21 April, held the same opponent to a 0-0 draw away three days earlier, and thumped WSG Tirol 5-0 on 11 April. Before that came a narrow 2-1 defeat at Grazer AK 1902, a 3-2 home win over SV Ried, and a 3-1 loss away to Altach in mid-March. Three wins from six, and all three were emphatic enough to say something real about their attacking ceiling.

At home, they’ve been dangerous. The most recent example was the 3-0 win over Wolfsberger, but even beyond that result, the pattern is obvious: they’re creating chances, getting bodies into the box, and scoring in bunches when the game opens up. The xG from that Wolfsberger match was 2.03, which fits the eye test. They weren’t scraping by. They were on top. And when they’ve had space to attack in this round, they’ve been ruthless, especially in that 5-0 demolition of WSG Tirol. That won’t go unnoticed in Altach’s dressing room.

There’s still a defensive wobble tucked inside the story. Blau Weiss Linz lost 2-1 at Grazer AK and 3-1 at Altach in the reverse fixture, so they’re not immune when they get drawn into a more physical, less forgiving sort of game. Mind you, they’ve now gone three matches unbeaten since that defeat in Graz, and the clean sheet against Wolfsberger was their third in recent home-and-away work. That’s a useful sign. It doesn’t make them watertight, but it does suggest Köllner’s side are getting better at controlling games instead of just chasing them.

SCR Altach Form & Analysis

Altach have been harder to beat than they’ve been easy to trust. Their last six league matches have brought a mixed bag: a goalless draw with WSG Tirol on 21 April, a 2-2 draw away to the same opponent on 18 April, a 1-0 home win over Grazer AK, a 3-2 defeat at SV Ried, a 1-1 draw away to Wolfsberger AC, and that earlier 3-1 home win over Blau Weiss Linz. That’s not a bad run in isolation. But it’s a run of inches, not strides. They’ve kept ticking over without really landing a punch.

The away record tells you even more. Altach have picked up the odd point on the road, and they’re not rolling over, but they’re not turning away matches into victories either. The draw at Wolfsberger was solid enough, and the 2-2 at WSG Tirol showed some fight, yet the loss at SV Ried was a reminder that they can be exposed when games become open and frantic. That’s the danger here. If Blau Weiss Linz force the tempo, Altach don’t always look comfortable chasing the ball.

Still, Zaric’s side do have one thing going for them: they tend to score first in this head-to-head and they know how to make the match ugly. In the 0-0 against WSG Tirol on 21 April, they barely allowed their opponents a foothold, and that kind of low-event football has become part of their survival toolkit. The problem is that it can leave them with too little threat at the other end. Their 0.65 xG in that latest match was modest, and that’s putting it kindly. If they’re going to leave Linz with anything, they’ll need to be much sharper than that.

Head-to-Head

Altach have had the better of this fixture recently, and that’s worth taking seriously. They beat Blau Weiss Linz 3-1 on 14 March, won 1-0 at home on 8 February, and also claimed a 3-1 victory at home on 15 February 2025. Blau Weiss Linz have had some success too — the 1-0 win in Linz on 27 September 2025, the 1-0 away win on 21 September 2024, and the 2-1 home victory in April 2024 all show that they can land blows in this matchup.

The pattern, though, is fairly clear. These meetings are usually tight, competitive and mean. They don’t tend to open up into chaos. That’s one reason the double chance on the home side looks attractive rather than trying to force a straight result call. Altach have had their moments, but Blau Weiss Linz are in better form now, and that matters more than the old scars.

We Predict: Double Chance 1X

We’re backing Double Chance 1X at 2/7 here. It’s short enough in the market, sure, but it still looks like the strongest angle. Blau Weiss Linz are the better side right now and they’ve just put three goals past Wolfsberger at home, while Altach arrive off a flat 0-0 draw and without much attacking spark to lean on. If the game follows recent patterns, the hosts should avoid defeat even if they don’t completely dominate every stretch.

A 2-1 win for Blau Weiss Linz feels about right. That fits the home team’s attacking form, Altach’s tendency to hang around without fully taking over, and the general shape of this fixture. You could argue for Blau Weiss Linz to win outright, and that’s not a crazy shout, but the double chance is the safer play in a match where Altach have already shown they can make life awkward. That won’t stop the hosts. It just makes the price on 1X the sensible route.
